Not a great half. Best I can say is it was tactical.

 

On our end we didn't really get going much. On their end they got their foot in and shut us down. They were on top, just, though neither side did much.

 

We looked a bit more ponderous in the middle. We've been wondering what Wijnaldum does, but he keeps it moving, very efficiently. He can also turn and move forward with a burst of pace. Can looked a bit slower in comparison, although Emre is a good player and finding his way back.

 

Sturridge hasn't really been in it. Not sure what I'd do second half but we need some urgency about us. At the moment it's their sort of game and thy will be happier at the half.

Sturridge was too isolated. Firmino and Mane gave him no support at all. I'd swap one of them for Origi, maybe leave Mane on as his pace could be useful.

He isn't a left midfielder. He, like Coutinho, has been very poor but they're suffering from Sturridge doing nothing ahead of them.

Playing PC and RF in the same midfield hardly works, you need RF slightly ahead which means fucking off the static DS off. Get Lallana on at H/T and shove Bobby up top, his work rate of getting back when the opposition have the ball is missing as is Lallana's current form.

Need an additional passing option in midfield if we are to evade their high initial press. They are trying to force us to play long and are succeeding atm. Need a false nine to drop back and overload the midfield if we are to be able to play out of defence. Lallana on for Sturridge and Firmino on upfront.

Saying Mourinho is ruining the game is a cop-out. They are away to a top 4 side, it was obvious they weren't going to come out all guns blazing. We only have ourselves to blame for that first half display. We could have still shown quality and composure on the ball despite United's setup, but we didn't.
