Match seen out with little fuss, exactly as it should have been.

 

No complaints about work-rate and desire to win but for about 15 minutes up until we scored, we stopped setting the tempo. Derby didn't create anything but were still in it after 20 minutes because we hadn't produced a shot on target. After that, other than Bent heading a tame effort straight to Karius for a routine stop, plus Karius having to charge out to intercept a through-ball, we weren't ever under the cosh.

 

First goal for Klavan, a really well worked goal for Coutinho and then a third goal scored by Origi which was a carbon copy of a goal he scored at Saints in this competition last season.

 

Karius had an easy debut and apart from one underhit pass to Klavan, was totally untroubled. Ejaria got to make his debut but didn't get on the ball much. Grujic had a very good game until the last 15 minutes when he visibly tired and started making errors, with a couple of misplaced passes and then lunging in to try and win the ball back.

 

Can returned after injury and looked very rusty. He was mobile enough but his touch was off and he misplaced a lot of simple passes. Ings made his return to the team too and looked up for it but again, didn't get much chance to make an impact. One pass through to him on the left of the area was too high and left him with little time to control and make use of it.

 

Nice to see that alehouse cunt Bradley Johnson get booked. He spent so much time trying to shove our players around in aerial duals, and also left an elbow in on Coutinho. He used to do similar when he was at Norwich as well as diving around to win free kicks.

Karius on corners was very flakey... Much better than Mig with the ball though I thought he was overconfident at times. I'm not sure what I'd do on Saturday, leaning slighlty towards Mig tbh

We know Mignolet isn't good enough, absolutely no point wasting any more time on him.   Come May if we're still asking whose the better of those two, then we'll need to go back into the transfer market.
