Joel Matip

Hell of a player. Shitty injury record but rarely let us down on the pitch. Will miss the warm secure feeling seeing his name on the teamsheet.

Why Joel Matip was Liverpool's most improved player of 2019

A tremendous player, really top class.

But so badly let down by his injury record.

Only played 200 games for us (all comps) in 8 seasons - such a shame.

The way his career has ended here is a real shame, but sadly representative of his physical struggles.

Seemed to be very popular with the other players and a good lad too.

Absolute top class player, we would have won the final against Madrid if he had played instead of Konate and we would have won the league this season if he had not been injured.

We should have given him a one year extension.

To play about 10 games if we are lucky?

I know he's been injured a lot but I'm still gonna miss the fucker profusely.

Brilliant player, great character. Class act on and off the pitch, gonna miss his hilarious outbursts on the pitch when he gave "fouls" away, gonna miss the hilarious training clips when he's winding every man and his dog up. Gonna miss all the other videos with his team mates where he's pissing and laughing about.

Would've been an incredible signing for 50M nevermind on a free.

Best of luck wherever you go next.

Our 82m back line. Simply incredible.

(Tweet not embedding properly for some reason, just gonna post it instead)

Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson

All comps - 59 starts together, 44 wins, 11 draws,  4 defeats, 28 clean sheets.

Premier League - 46 starts, 36 wins, 9 draws, 1 (ONE) defeat, 22 clean sheets.

They've only started together 59 times together in 8 years? I know Robbo, VVD and Trent came later but wtf

Loved Matip, brilliant player. Only 200 games in 8 years is quite sad. It should be closer to 400 games in that time. We'd definitely have won more if he could've been on the pitch more.

What a seismic shift we are entering.

Imagine first day of training-  Klopp and his whole staff aren't there and whoever else we sell/release playing wise.

Slot will need to be a big personality to lift the place

He's been VVDs best partner, no doubt about that. Just a shame he had no capability to stay fit.

Exactly right. Virge's lack of Joel alongside him has been pivotal in our lack of defensive solidity ultimately.

Yeah that's the 1 shame  - that they couldn't play more together, who knows what would've turned out then. Injuries have killed us in every single season we didn't win the Prem/CL.
