That is such a bad goal to concede...it isn't even as if they loaded players in and did us like we see often - they clearly didn't want to over commit protecting a 2-1 right on ht but we nust gift their 1 player in the vicinity a goal.

Seems to be no middle ground with Can at the mo....he is superb when on it or abject and lately he is abject more often.

Come on mate, it was a shit header, a real shit header. He could have even been aware enough to glance it back to the keeper but instead he heads it to the only person on the edge of the box, he’s slightly better than Lovren but he makes almost as many mistakes as him.

There were 3 players there and they all turned and ran away well 2 nearest and none of them thought to stay with Ali, esp Can as Milner covers Son yet Can turns to look to blame someone for not picking up Ali... that's not on Matip (it's hard to generate power in a header you are running the wrong way to) maybe he should of stuck it out for a corner but with our record on them prob best not to.....

Firstly it’s actually Mignolet fault for not screaming for him to leave it.

 

But Matip was unchallenged, I agree someone should have stayed on the edge of the box but he could have directed the header any other way and it would have fallen into space instead it fell to the only Tottenham player there. It was a bad goal to concede all round but Mignolet and Matip are first on the list to blame for me with the rest of the covering players second.

Matip, like most defenders who aren't mentally deficient, typically gets beaten by players who are more skilled at attacking than he is at defending. 

 

On the other hand, a complete brain-dead donkey like Lovren beats himself all the time just by stepping foot on the pitch.

Can has been shite for ages and is nowhere near the player he thinks he is. I'd let him go in January,IF I had any confidence we'd replace him with somebody better.

This isn't about just one mistake though is it? A good player makes a mistake and people shrug it off because it happens to the best now and again. Matip is being rightly criticised for his time at Liverpool were he's looked quite poor to be honest.

The only thing Matip’s got in his favour, is that Lovren’s self destructing every other week. For a 6ft 5 centre half he defends like someone half his height.

 

The excuses about him struggling because he has to play alongside Lovren need to stop now too. He’s just not good enough in a 2 man centre half pairing in this league. He needs to be in the centre of a 3 man defence if he’s going to look anywhere near a top centre half. He looked so slow today and was miles off the pace of the game again.

Even if Can stayed on the edge of the box as the defender in that situation you have no idea where the ball is going so your reacting, where Matip headed it straight to Alli chances are Can wouldn’t have even got there anyway because as I keep saying it was straight to him, he didn’t have to move. If it was into space and Alli got there first and scored I’d agree more than Can was at fault.

Matip didn't have a good game yesterday, but you don't judge players over one game you judge them over a long period. He's quality in a sea of shite. People either overreacting or the usual axe to grind.
