Looks excellent so far. He's been strong one on one, and very good on the ball. Love the way he carries the ball into the opposition half to disturb their balance, you don't see many centre backs doing that.

 

Be interesting to see how he does against West Brom, as I actually think they'll put us under more pressure from high balls than the mancs managed to do. Still feel we are extremely weak at defending corners and crosses from set pieces, and of course Matip needs to take his fair share of the responsibility to improve this.

That Rondon is a useful player and a proper handful. He's a genuine threat - except when he's firmly tucked in Joel's pocket.

How good is he?  Still not convinced by Lovren (today more evidence of why) but playing next to Matip he looks almost assured, and I'm convinced it's largely down to Matip's presence.

 

Seriously can't believe he was free.  After a summer where we saw lesser players go for 50m it's an unbelievable bargain.
