Golf requires a decent level of fitness,mental strenth and decision making to play at the highest level. Its biggest critics are usually people who have never played. Its only a 'game' when played by hackers like me!

Its definitely a sport when played at the professional level.

 

Anything that can have a nail-biting finish between two players who aren't even in the same camera shot isn't a sport.

 

It's the height of games, I'll give you though.

Never played golf and probably wouldn't pay to watch it but having played foot golf I can appreciate that a high level of skill is needed.

I can get why people are not keen on the NFL but thinking the QBs get paid as they can throw the ball far is a bit silly. The timing and accuracy of the throws are everything. I do think its a sport you need a good grasp of to fully understand whats going on,especially on the to offensive and defensive lines otherwise it does look like 8 300lb men running into each other. If you get a good understanding of whats happening its very good. As is understanding and being able to read a playbook others wise its a fucked up picture of X,O and wiggly lines.

What was it recently ? The world ranked number 3 women's team Australian Sheila's were beaten by a team of 15 year old boys from Newcastle ? Well when I say beaten, I mean fucking destroyed, 8 nil. And when I say Newcastle, I don't mean Newcastle United, I mean Newcastle Australia.

 

There's far more "quality" to be seen on the Rec on a Sunday morning, played by a bunch of overweight beer bellied 40 somethings with ddgy knees and hangovers.

I'm not sure darts and snooker are sports but they certainly require a high degree of skill/practice. To be honest the only sport I can't get on with is road cycling, stuff in the velodrome is great. The Olympics will be on soon which means me watching loads of stuff that I wouldn't bother with normally like handball and hockey. The setting/stakes of a sport are what makes it for me. This thread seems tailor-made for chip-pissing and all that, probably should be renamed 'sports you don't like'.

The defensive sports are the best, because they bring out the tactical and concentration element of sport. Football, test cricket are magnificent for this reason.

Badminton. Not bothered either way about it but always remember my PE teacher in school saying it was "for the Homs who didn't want to get dirty playing footy". You had the option of playing footy on a muddy field at the back of the school or stay indoors in a nice warm sports hall playing badminton. Obviously I chose footy because I'm not a hom and dead hard like.

I used to know a Croatian girl who loved the sport, it seems to be quite popular all over the rest of Europe. 

 

After the Olympics they scrapped the entire UK handball budget (probably about a tenner anyway). Seemed particularly fucking stupid as it's a fairly inexpensive game, easy to learn the basics, a lot of fun, and great for fitness.

You can guarantee show jumping got to keep its budget. I did read they scrap the basketball budget too
