Not needed for traditional slaughter.

Thank fuck for that, I can imagine the phone call 'can you ask my solicitor get down government station asap, you won't recognise my face but I'm one of the ones having the soles of my feet smashed in by canes"

I imagine a lot of solicitors will be taking a much deserved couple of days off this weekend.

More than 15,000 education staff in Turkey have been suspended after last week's failed coup, as a purge of state officials widens still further.

The ministry of education accused them of links to Fethullah Gulen, a US-based cleric the Turkish government says was behind Friday's uprising.

Mr Gulen denies any involvement.

Bump.

Massive day in Turkey today.  If the referendum comes out in favour of the new constitution, the already-autocratic Erdogan gets full control over the Parliament and the judiciary.  Having all branches of government in one person's hands is never a good idea.  If that person has a track record of smearing, imprisoning and torturing his political rivals, trade unionists, journalists, lawyers, etc, then it's time to be very worried.

If you thought the UK's EU referendum was an undemocratic shitshow, you ain't seen nothing yet.  "No" campaigners in Turkey have been harassed, smeared and intimidated every step of the way.  TV debates have cut to commercials whenever the "No" campaigner is speaking, allowing the "Yes" campaigner free rein.  "No" campaigners have been arrested and charged with trumped-up charges of terrorism and their campaign materials have been destroyed.  Even - and this is where it gets really farcical - "No smoking" and "No parking" signs have been removed, because they feature the word "No".

This is the kind of stuff the Erdogan regime gets up to before he gets absolute power.

Errrrrr, what the fuck? How exactly was the UK EU referendum undemocratic? Either metric which is used in this country first past the post or win by %, leave won? How is this undemocratic?

Both sides lied (as all political parties do). The remain side had the BBC on their side, making it look like all leave voters were racist bigots.

And you can't really expect anything better from a country that still denies the Armenian genocide.

It was a throwaway line referring to the amount of lying during the campaign (overwhelmingly on the Leave side) and the amount of lying about the result since then (primarily by the Government).

That apathetic shrug in your last line is shite. The Turkish government don't recognise the 1915 genocide, therefore the Turkish people deserve to be fucked over by that government? Get to fuck!
