This excuse of it 'getting people out walking' is a bit shit really. It's a fucking sad society we all live in if people of any responsible age need to be motivated by an electronic device to get up of their fucking arses in order to get the most basic form of exercise.

Cycling to work down Dale Street is bad enough because people are glued to their phones and have absolutely no idea of what's going on around them without this shite adding to it.

I seen on BBC news this morning that some inconsiderate pricks have been using this in the 9/11 centre in New York. I thought I'd seen levels of insensitivity at an all time low in St Patricks when cunts were taking photos while there was a mass on. Also that some people have been lured into places and had their phones nicked. You're spot on, but that's the society we've got.  Kids raised on iPads and phones.  Don't see how getting them outside doing a bit of exercise can be seen as anything but a good thing tbh

Pokémon Go Is Releasing Cyber-Demons Into Churches Says Whackjob Pastor

The game is duping Americans into doing the bidding of nasty little “cyber-demons,” says pastor Rick Wiles, host of Trunews.

He apparently became all a-dither after he spotted a man taking photos with his phone outside his Trunews offices and called the cops. The officers informed him that all the man was doing was playing Pokémon Go.

Consider Wiles completely freaked out.

“These Pokémon creatures are like virtual, cyber-demons,” Wiles said. “What this man, Friday, was trying to find was the Pokémon demon that had been placed inside the ‘Trunews’ office.”

Like Michele Bachmann and numerous other right-wing religious nincompoops, Wiles believes we are in the “end times.”

I have no idea if we’re in the end times or not, but I sincerely doubt this is happening because people are out there looking for Squirtle.

"What if this technology is transferred to Islamic jihadists, and Islamic jihadists have an app that shows them where Christians are located geographically?” he asked.

Don’t they already know enough to just follow Donald Trump around if they are searching for right-wing Christians?

But Wiles is worried because the game places “PokéStops” and “Pokémon gyms” at homes, churches, and businesses.

“The enemy, Satan, is targeting churches with virtual, digital, cyber-demons,” Wiles said. “I believe this thing is a magnet for demonic powers.”

Okay, people. Drop that Squirtle right now. You’ve been warned.

He also thinks people playing this game have a tenuous grasp of reality. Really.

“At what point does this game go live and the Pokémon masters are telling people to kill people in those buildings?” Wiles asked. “People are losing touch with reality.”

Weirdly (as if everything he said above wasn’t already peculiar), Wiles conflates Pokémon with the death of Philando Castile. Because Castile’s girlfriend livestreamed the aftermath of his shooting on Facebook Live, and he thinks Castile’s death has been faked.

Somehow that assertion then his Trunews co-host Edward Szall to chime in with a fake quote from the man who created Pokémon saying that he endorsed Satanism.

“They’re spawning demons inside your church,” Wiles said. “They’re targeting your church with demonic activity.” Then he warned that “this technology will be used by the enemies of the cross to target, locate and execute Christians.”

Appearing in late June on the Jim Bakker show, he issued further pearls of wisdumb about Muslims:

“Muslims are not normal people, they’re demon-possessed. There’s no such thing as a moderate Muslim. There’s only backslidden Muslims. There are backslidden Muslims who aren’t reading the Quran. Once they get back into reading the Quran and becoming a practicing, devout Muslim, they become violent because Islam is a violent religion.”

So I guess the murders of Dr. Barnett Slepian and Dr. John Britton weren’t acts of Christian terrorism, the Crusades notwithstanding. Both doctors were shot by right-wing Christian anti-abortion terrorists.

And I guess the murders of six people at a Sikh Temple in Wisconsin, by a male white supremacist wasn’t an act of Christian terrorism either.

Wiles is a major purveyor of claptrap. Let’s not worry about deforestation or climate change—things that are destroying the planet and may bring a sort of “end times” for humans. No, let’s obsess over cartoon figures that make people happy and actually get them out of the house.

A registered child sex offender has been arrested after being caught playing Pokemon Go with a minor near a courthouse in the US state of Indiana.

Randy Zuick was put on the sex offenders list in April after pleading guilty to molesting a child.

The terms of his probation specify that he avoid contact with children.

Zuick was spotted by a probation officer based at the courthouse in Greenfield, who alerted police. He will face a judge later today.

"The probation officers who knew him were the ones who saw him doing that and so it seems that it was a little bit surprising that he would be so bold to violate his probation terms on a courthouse lawn," Hancock county prosecutor Brent Eaton told WTHR news.

Media in Greenfield have reported that the Pokestop on the lawn outside the Hancock County courthouse had become a popular spot for Pokemon players.

If it is decided the incident violates the terms of his probation, the judge could revoke the arrangements and send Zuick to prison for up to three years.

Zuick was arrested on the day that the UK's NSPCC urged the game's creators to update it to limit the ways that adults could use it to target children.

The NSPCC said it was "deeply troubling" that the app's creators had ignored warnings and child safety concerns.

The game encourages people to explore their local area to find Pokemon.

Game maker Niantic and the Pokemon Company said they took player safety seriously and "encouraged" people to be "safe and alert" at all times.

Computer security firms have also issued warnings to people about the growing interest in the game from cyber thieves.

RiskIQ said it had now seen more than 215 separate Pokemon Go-themed apps pop up on app stores. So far, it said, only one of the programs was actively malicious but others could do harm in other ways.

"Approximately half of these unofficial apps are requesting broad permissions from users, risking data exposure via mobile devices," said Ben Harknett from RiskIQ.

One fake version found by Eset seems to disappear after being installed but instead lurks in the background on a phone, generating clicks on pornography sites to help an ad-fraud campaign.

Security firm Symantec said many cyber thieves were creating "trojanised" versions of the Pokemon Go game.

"If the malicious version of the app is installed, it displays the Pokemon Go start screen, making users assume that nothing is amiss," said Symantec researcher Candid Wueest in a blogpost. "However, the threat gives the attacker complete access to the phone."

Mr Wueest said it had also spotted other criminals running scams purportedly offering people a quick way to get hold of PokeCoins, the game's virtual currency.

Many well-established survey scam sites had also rebranded to tempt Pokemon players, he said.

Oh I can top that.

Auschwitz reminds people its ‘disrespectful’ to play Pokemon Go at a former Nazi death camp

Auschwitz have had to warn people not to try and catch Pokemon on the site of the concentration camp.

The Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum says it does not allow people to play Pokemon Go on their smartphones during visits to the former German death camp because it is ‘disrespectful’.

Museum spokesman Pawel Sawicki said its authorities are asking game producers to exclude the site of the former Nazi German death camp from games.

He said allowing such games to be active on the authentic grounds of the former death camp is ‘disrespectful to the memory of the victims of the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp on many levels and it is absolutely inappropriate.’

The museum is a site of commemoration for the estimated 1.1 million people killed in Auschwitz-Birkenau, and to the survivors who suffered as camp inmates.

Most of the victims were European Jews who perished in the gas chambers, but there were also Poles, Roma, Soviet prisoners of war and others.

Earlier in the day the Auschwitz memorial wrote on Twitter: ‘Do not allow playing (hash)PokemonGO on the site of our Memorial and similar places. It’s disrespectful on many levels.’

Yesterday we reported how one Pokemon Go user found a Koffing (a poison gas type Pokemon) in the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC.

Forget the game authors, what sort of fucked up mentality must you have to decide to get your smartphone out and play it at Auschwitz? This is not on the game, it's on the muppets playing it there.

I know.  I thought that with the last line too, what kind of fuck-up decides to whip out their mobile and go hunting pokemon at a holocaust museum?
