Sadio Mane

Just heard on the radio we've paid £30 million to Southampton. My initial reaction was oh fuck off we've had our pants pulled down again. Carroll, Benteke, Downing, Lallana and now Mane. All massively overpriced. All bought from other premier league clubs. All varying degrees of shite. We never learn do we? I really hope I'm wrong. I'm not saying Mane is shite but I just think for that sort of money surely there is better value out there away from the premier league??

Carrol was years ago, Benteke will soon be up at Celtic, Downing was just like a mutant sheep who needed to be destroyed, Lallana is the nivea lord and Mane will be the one we've been looking for all this time. What could possibly go wrong Dick?

Away from the Premier League? What is this heresy, Mr Sack? Are you trying to get this website shut down?

Aside from the supplying Southampton's superior scouts with endless amounts of transfer funds aspect, actually really think we need a player like Mane - pace, finishing, control and vision.

Downside, it sounds like he's a bit of a tit.

Whenever we're interested in a player I ask myself 3 questions: Is he black? Is he 6 ft 2? Is he a defensive midfielder?

If the player meets 2 out of the 3 criteria, then I'm all in.

Can't remember the last time I got excited about a Liverpool signing. It's like a nan's Christmas present, usually something they got from the market called 'Space Wars' which the stall holder assured her was genuine. You just give her a kiss on the cheek, say 'thanks nan' then go and look at pictures of decent toys in the catalogue. This is when you're 18.

Same. Underwhelming Mark E signing, from Southampton, even in the new reality of transfer fees seems too much money for this level of player.

However, he has the attributes we lack in a position we needed to improve and could add a new dimension to us, which are, crushingly saddeningly, giant strides forward on recent years.

Throw in the doubts about his consistency and we've only taken a double bogey on this hole.

Good jawb, Liverpool Reds. Hoo-ha.

Paying £30m for Mane is a mistake, in my opinion.

The thing we must need is a reliable 20 goal striker. Goals change games and if we go 1-0 up most teams are still too terrified to attack us. I think Sturridge is the best striker in the country not named Sergio, but depending on his fitness has already cost one manager his job.

Our budget should have been spent on a striker, or at least a Midfeld general, instead of picking up another small attacking midfielder, who is not better than either Firmino or Coutinho.

I'm a bit underwhelmed by this signing. I think for £30m you should buy a better player from the continent e.g., Mkhitaryan, Draxler, etc. This would also end our interest in Goetze, which I'm not too psyched about. On the flip side, he's not a bad player.. If he could play like he did against us, when he destroyed Sakho in that 3-2 win consistently, then people would forget about his transfer fee.

    • Simon Mignolet is attracting a deal of interest by Liverpool's Premier League rivals but it has emerged that the Reds are just as keen to retain the Belgian goalkeeper.

The Mirror reports that Crystal Palace and Brighton are interested in signing the 31 year-old Belgian for a transfer fee in the range of £8 million.

However a different report from ESPN says that valuation falls short of their own and in any case, the club is determined to keep the veteran who they view as a fantastic influence in the dressing room.

James Milner said as much in April "It's incredible how he is around the training ground, he has the best attitude I've ever seen in my life."

It is that sort of high praise which is echoed across the club with Jurgen Klopp, goalkeeping coach John Achterberg, the rest of the backroom team and the playing squad wanting Mignolet to extend his six-year stay with the club.

It is also believed that sporting director Michael Edwards has not actually put a fee on Mignolet as he does not foresee a sale taking place.

Mignolet who has another two years to run on his current deal ,was signed from Sunderland in 2013 and has made over 150 appearances in that period.    But he only added two cup appearances to that tally in 2018/9 after the summer signing of Alisson and the Brazilian did not give him a look in with his constant level of exceptional performances.

Liverpool have been linked Alex McCarthy for Southampton in recent weeks to fill the back-up role, but more and more, clubs are very keen on having a couple of senior players on their books to help the younger players coming through as well as the new signings.

In some ways being a number two is one of the toughest in football as you never know if, let alone when your number will be called.

But you cannot buy respect and it seems the Belgian has that in spades.

It remains to be seen what will transpire between now and the end of the transfer window, but it seems a near on certainty that Mig has a place at Liverpool for the foreseeable future if he wants it.

    • "Watched by one and a half billion people worldwide..."   Yeah, right. Who the fuck watches the Commonwealth Games? Why does it even exist anymore?
    • Centre backs are harder to profile statistically and this is based on limited minutes but it's obvious what Edwards and the laptop nerds see in him:     That would look pretty solid if you were talking about a 26-year old. From a 17-year old, it's ... *drools*
    • Hopefully Spurs are not really our business this upcoming season but still, I am definitely NOT a fan of seeing Spurs fix the biggest problem in their squad with the best available player to do it with. Ndombele is seriously good.   Plus it means Lyon will definitely hang on to Aouar until next season at the very least. He is going to cost us an arm and a leg when we eventually go to pry him away from them.
    • Looks like it. Hopefully helps those useless cunts take points off City.
