Labour MP John Mann, who has repeatedly lambasted Jeremy Corbyn and his socialist platform, and who has repeatedly voted in favour of the government’s Brexit legislation, has resigned as an MP in order to take up a role as an advisor for the Conservative Party.

According to The Times, the Bassetlaw MP has revealed he is quitting the House of Commons in order to become the Tory government’s full-time “antisemitism tsar”.

Second biggest party in a hung parliament. Could have formed a minority government. A loss but nowhere near a wipeout.

Bragging about finishing second when you're the Labour party is a waste of time. They would've had to lose 300 seats to finish third. The Tories couldn't win a majority from the 198 seats they started with, so it's asinine to pretend it was some sort of victory that Labour lost in a hung parliament. They lost nearly 100 seats. They've never been in power since. They were wiped out. End of story.

The Tories are up in the polls released today. Largely due to a migration from the Brexit Party back to Tory.

This country!

Saw that , and while it is a very small survey of 2009 people by pollsters linked to the Observer. it forcibly backs the opposition tactics to not go for an election at this point.

They are allowed to discuss the matter in a democracy are they not ? I have no idea what Starmer's interactions with his local committee are like and whether they feel he is doing a good job as their MP. There seems an inordinate focus on these potential trigger ballots considering only one has been called to my knowledge ( A female MP in Hull I had never heard of ).

Actually SD while I am responding to your post , what is the Lib Dem system for challenging an incumbent MP ? , I am sure I read it is similar to Labour.

Brown was recorded saying "some old bigoted woman" to a woman that addressed immigration concerns to him. The city in question has seen it's immigration population double since Blair introduced open borders, and 70% of the school children speak English as a second language.

Hold on, are you talking about Gillian Duffy? She of the town of Rochdale fame? The Rochdale borough that had almost 85% white people (80% white British) it at last count? 70% of them speak English as a second language? Are you sure about this, or are you talking about somebody else?

In fairness I could believe that English is the second language of 70% of Rochdalians, after mong.

I've no idea, it doesn't tend to happen. Anyone who manages to get themself elected with a gold rosette is considered to be basically untouchable.

ComRes did a survey on "Who would you vote for in a GE after Brexit extended beyond 31st October?"

LAB: 28%

CON: 26%

LDEM: 20%

BREX: 17%

GRN: 4%

The population of Rochdale in 1991 (6 years before Blair) was 203,928.  In 2010 (the year of the "bigoted woman" incident) it was 210,758.

Imagine a town being subjected to a population increase of about 3% in the blink of 19 years.  I don't know how the poor blighters endured it.  I blame the immigunts.

I didn't say the population of Rochdale has doubled though, did I? I said the immigrant population has doubled in the last 20 years, and it has.

Some of you lot need to learn to read.

He had to drive all the way from London, to her house, to make a grovelling public apology and he got wiped out in the election because of it. Intellectual powerhouse indeed. Also, Brown's fiscal policies to handle the Market crash of the late 2000's were exactly the same as all Western countries. He printed and borrowed money. That's the extent of his genius in that regard.

The UK were more susceptible to the economic crash than any other country. This was largely due to thatchers obsession with breaking the back of manufacturing and mining and putting all of our eggs in the basket of the financial services industry. Our economy became scewed to a point of almost economic meltdown. As for your comments about quantative easing, to my knowledge it is exactly how all the major world economies dealt with the issues, USA, Japan and Germany/ECB. I'm happy to be corrected on that, but I'm pretty certain I'm right on it. His response was exactly what would be expected and our difficulty was we were in bigger shit than anyone else because it hurt a larger part of our economy, not helped by RBS having only recently bought ABM Amro which was a major player in the mortgages markets that triggered the crisis.

The point he was making was that the immigrant population must have been pretty low in the first place if the net population only increased by around 7000 in 19 years.

And you need to learn to understand.

If the total population has increased by about 3% and that figure includes a doubling of the immigrant population, then the immigrant population must have been pretty fucking small to start with.

Any idea what the negative impacts of that growth in the immigrant population  - from "very few" to "2 x very few" - were? Because in the absence of negative impacts, anybody complaining about it is fair game for being called a bigot.
