No - or at least, not directly (because of course, that's where we're all from originally).

 

My great-grandparents left Lithuania in the late 19th century due to ongoing anti-Jewish violence there, and ended up in Ireland. They were aiming for the USA; most of the rest of the family made it that far, but back then you would have unscrupulous captains dumping migrants off ships wherever was convenient, and their passengers would be none the wiser.

First of all, I would point out that I am not religious (my dad left the faith in his teens, we were raised as atheists) and the same probably goes for most of my family. But it's certainly true that the notion of a Jewish homeland in their place of origin is a concept that is dear to most Jews, irrespective of whether or not they follow the traditional religion of their people.

 

As a corollary to that, one thing Jews absolutely hate is being classed as Western imperialist colonisers, which is where I think much of the issue of antisemitism on the left comes from.

And holy shit this thread went crazy since I was last here. Maybe Stronts problem (with yes or no to Corbyn being an antisemite) is that he's Zionist so to him Corbyn is clearly an antisemite, but he knows many of us don't see it the same way? And the implications of anti-zionism meaning anti-semitism, etc. If so I can see why it's pointless arguing it here, clearly most of us don't agree. But most of us would fight to protect the rights of Jews as well, what a fucking mess this whole thing is.

 

Would love to know the level of shit that's the fault of the Israeli gov/agencies/lobbyists in all of this crap that's been going on in recent years too, would probably be a crazy amount. The whole thing has got out of hand.

 

And it won't stop while Corbyn is leader. He was warned that no matter what he does, how many times he apologises, it won't make a difference. Yet we have Trump clearly reeling off antisemitic shit in his speeches to groups of Jews. He's done it several times but because he supports Israel so much it's just glossed over. Imagine if he supported Palestine and said that shit, he'd be destroyed.
