And the rest of it is shite.

No chance. Every battle scene is incredible and the moments of dialogue in between are ace. The sniper scene is ace. The assault on the hill is ace. The final battle is ace. The FUBAR thing is good. The betting on Miller's job, the bra conversation, Vechio, the dog tags, Edith Piaff - all ace. The reveal at the end that it's Ryan rather than Miller as the start makes you think is good too.

Ostre sledovane vlaky / Closely Observed Trains

Not much war in it, but I just cannot pass up an opportunity to promote it.

But favourite has got to be Kanal.........

I probably wouldn't classify Closely Watched Trains as "war", though A Shop on Main Street definitely is.

Czech films are the best in the world.  Fact.

Also, nobody does hurt, pain and suffering better than the Poles.  Plus the single take opening of Kanal is even better than Touch of Evil's.

Honestly, please watch these films those people who are nominating modern American fare as "classic".

Finally...

And very finally...

Well, there was not a lot of war in Czechoslovakia. There are explosions, Germans, characters getting killed, asses getting stamped. Something for everyone.
