Love the look of it and the cast, as well the refusal to glorify the dirty mess of humans killing each other over dirt. 

 

The change of expression that comes over Nick Nolte's face when the platoon commander refuses to carry out his order is one of the finest split seconds of acting I have ever seen.

Has The Victors had a mention? Large cast including George Peppard.

 

Probably the closest I’ve seen to something like the World at war documentaries. 
It is incredibly grim.

There are a few scenes which have stuck with me, I won’t mention any so as not to spoil it for those who’ve never seen it. 
It is a very very good film.

It's a brilliant film. That whole scene where they are taking out the Japanese encampment at the top of the hill is stunning.

The Hill is a fabulous film. Attack I have seen a few times and is also fabulous.

The scene with Peter Fonda and his dog is harrowing.

 

I don’t think they’d film a scene like that in a modern film.

Found a couple of real gems recently. 

 

Conspiracy is about the Wannsee conference where they decided on the final solution, with Kenneth Brannagh as Heydrich. The whole film is set essentially in the meeting room but it's a tour de force of dialogue and character. 

 

This is the reality of fascism, not just thugs in the street - but bureaucrats, statistics, jobsworths and bullies. 

 

 

 

The Eagle has Landed, forgot what a brilliant cast is in this.

The 1968 Charge of the Light Brigade is worth a mention. It highlights the pig-headed stupidity and vicious snobishness of the aristocracy, the rigid Victorian class hierarchy and the senseless waste of life caused by a lack of professionalism in an army where your rank was generally determined by your social standing. I haven't seen it in a while and it might have dated badly, but I remember it having a bit of a swinging '60s vibe and anti-war message.

Not the best film and looks more dated than it actually is but does show what a cunt it must have been to be a German soldier in Russia after the invasion ground to a halt and winter kicked in.

 

 

Its not the best but a Bridge top Far is probably up there as one of my favourites.
