It's so hard to know how this will go. Do the fans turn on Karius if things start going badly? Do the fans turn on Klopp if Karius starts making big mistakes?

 

You'd like to think that IF he starts as number 1 and the window is still open at the beginning of the season that if things start going wrong that something will be done about it.

 

Trouble is the window shuts before the season starts this year. If he's not replaced by August 9th, then that's it, we'll have to persist for the next five months (at least) with what we have.

 

Given our current MO seems to be replacing players / getting the right ones six months later than necessary, I wouldn't be shocked to see us stick with him for the first half of the season. The whole concussion line muddied the waters enough. 

 

Either way, you can be sure the line coming from the club will be sticking with Karius; it gives a slightly better bargaining position for a replacement, and if a deal never emerges it won't undermine him any further.

The only position we have scrimped on recently has been the GK position and it has come back to haunt us. I personally think we are looking for a keeper - however public backing of Karius is probably the right thing to do just incase we can't get in who we want - imagine his state of mind if he starts in goal knowing Klopp doesn't back him.
