The two defenders completely switched off when that ball came in. It wasn't his to claim but once he took a step out, he was in no-man's land. I would bet that the coach thinks the error is on all three of them and not just the goalkeeper.

Harsh for him to be blamed alone for that goal and I wouldn't call it a howler, more of a lack of understanding between gk and defenders. I do think that mentally he is appallingly weak though and his career looks to be that of a journeyman gk at such a young age.

Loris Karius lost the support of his teammates after a video of him eating ice cream came out on social media, claims a leading Merseyside journalist.

The Daily Mail’s Dominic King says that Karius – who made a series of errors in the Champions League final – made his biggest mistake when he failed to simply keep his head down.

The German has since left Liverpool on loan for Besiktas, replaced by Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson, who has been damn-near perfect this season.

Alisson made a grave error against Leicester, but King writes that: “Alisson’s team-mates knew a mistake had been made but once he had held his hands up and apologised, the issue was closed. Not one person around him felt this could be the start of some kind of malaise”.

The same could not be true of Karius, who angered his teammates by continuing the seek the limelight despite a performance that should have been humbling.

“Slowly but surely, his actions led to trust being eroded and, for some, the video he posted to Instagram in July of him exercising and eating ice cream in California was the final straw.

“That was a time for self-awareness, to keep his head down and work but he continued to make himself a story,” writes King.

A Vanilla story if ever there was one.

Sunday league to Champions League...how did he get through the 'system' - beggars belief!

He was very good at Mainz but once he came out of that comfort zone he was fucked. Quite surprised he didn't go back to Germany, even as a back up GK,just to build his confidence but he has fallen apart big time.

He never seems all that arsed on the face of it though.

I think you’ve pretty much nailed it in one here.  He doesn’t give a shit.  It’s as clear as day.  If he did he wouldn’t have been arrogant enough to be rolling balls into players shins in any game never mind one with so much riding on it.  He would have learned that lesson 10 years ago.
