Ronnie Whelan supposedly owned the sportsman pub in kirkdale!

He did, he used to get his brother in law, Freddie to run it for him. quite a few of the players used to go in there, I've seen McMahon, Hansen, Hysen, Venison, Staunton in there. Even seen Kenny arrive, only he went upstairs. I always thought it was OK in there. I used to frequent it most Fri & Sat from 1989 until around 1992. I remember going in there after the Palace Semi,a Sunday night I think, Whelen was pissed & having a right old laugh whilst I was proper sulking. Gave him a right mouthful & told him to fuck off. Good times.
