Because people are suckers for a good advertising campaign.

Yep, it's pushed here because it's big in America, and like anything big over there, it gets spread around like a global STD.

Well in the Irish, a good bunch of lads, but if I see any non-Irish person (that includes Stig) in a green hat or giving it excessive revelry I reserve the right to trip them down a flight of stairs.

Why is this a thing outside of Ireland for non Irish?

Same reason Christmas is a thing for non Christians. Money is spent on things and it keeps the economy moving.

And Guinness is great too.

Grandparents on my Mum’s side born in Ireland.

Have no real connection to the Emerald Isle but it seems loads of people in Canada go to Ireland to reconnect with their heritage, which usually involves rolling into some village and going to a pub and not understand  a word anyone says. Those ancestry.com kits I’m convinced are a scam ran by the Irish tourist board.

Guiness is good. And soda bread.

When I come back to the UK I always have a pint oF Guinness quickly. You can get it easily over here but it’s so

much better in the UK.

I'm pretty sure Guinness tastes much better where its made. Ireland, which coincidentally isn't in the UK last time I checked.

I think your average Irish man is rather blazay to St Patrick's day. I have heard from guys that lived away for it, that Patrick's day, away from home is much better. Maybe its the longing for home, increases nostalgia or something.

Anyway, happy St Patrick's day
