It appears there are tiers to people's right to social housing.

The situation these young people face is shocking enough, but to have a housing provider agree a short extension (under shame) to allow someone just a little more time to sort things out, and then go back on that in such an underhand and cuntish manner, is really quite telling about where we are as a society. This is so-called social housing provision.

The Tories have turned social housing into yet another monopoly and installed leaders sympathetic to their cause. It's another one of their many sneaky tricks that went unnoticed during their reign. There are many, many more.

Amazon workers narrowly reject union in historic vote - BBC News

Just seen that and my heart sank. Stupid Midlands bastards.

It's amazing how many people are against unions mate. Quite happy to take the pay rises the unions negotiate though!

They need to remove the rules that allow non-union members to get the same terms and conditions as union members.

You're so clever on your own, off you go and negotiate your own pay rises!

Where I work doesn't have Union representation (I'm still a member of unite like, they can fuck off if they think I'm giving that up), they have a representative council instead. Which is as much use as a chocolate teapot.

Luckily the pay and benefits are decent. The ones who have just been TUPE'd over to Diligenta will soon be wanting union representation though.

That's a sickener.  I think if you fail in a recognition bid, you can't try again for three years; really, you want to get around 2/3 of the workforce onside before you go to the vote.

"Hey, boss, I deserve better pay and conditions"

"Anything you say, Stronts, you know that you and you alone are indispensable to our success and it's only right that we reward you."

"Incidentally, I notice some of my co-workers were struggling with their physical and mental health because of their workloads and shitty conditions, but they don't have the confidence to come and speak to you about it."

"Fuck 'em."

"Suits me just fine."

We're not allowed to negotiate our own salaries in the public sector. Which is why I get paid the same as someone who does half as much work as I do.

What?

As I said, I would love to negotiate my own, but I am prohibited from doing so. I'm not sure which part of this is unclear.

well if you feel so strongly about it,wouldnt it be more beneficial top work somewhere where those pesky unions didn’t impede you?

As you can see, I didn't raise the topic, I was responding to a comment that somebody else made. If you want to ask them why they feel so strongly about it, be my guest.

you clearly object to unions having collective bargaining rights over issues like pay?

No, and I didn't say anything like that.

What I would like is the choice to negotiate my own.

First thing I did when I joined Royal Mail was sign up to the CWU , why you wouldn't want a Union standing up for you is just mind blowing.

I used to work as a lab chemist and everyone else in the labs always used to complain they'd get a pay rise below what the (unionised) plant workers got. There was an artificial distinction between the plant and the lab, so we had to be recognised separately. I had a word with my local union rep and he laid on a meeting at a pub a couple of hundred yards from the site with a free buffet. Made sure everyone in the labs knew what was going on, thought we'd get a dozen or so sign ups which would be enough, and... no one but me and a mate (already in the union) turned up. Inevitably everyone whinged again when we got our flat 2.5% across the board later in the year and the plant guys negotiated 4.5%. Some people just can't be helped.

but surely collective bargaining has more power?

So why don't, for instance, f**tb*llers negotiate their pay collectively then? Or lawyers?

As I say, if people want to negotiate as a collective, they should be free to do so. I am sure it is beneficial for the mediocre.

well footy players pay someone to do their negotiating for them, and in rerturn they take a hefty slice of the players earnings

would you prefer this?

Feel like that is irrelevant, and you've ignored the question I asked you.
