I think I've created a monster

He's been given down the banks and had all his privileges taken away after explaining himself. Turns out he said it in anger after some girls were winding him up. It's safe to say that he won't fancy being told off by his mum like that again. When I said I wouldn't be surprised if the police knocked on the door I think a little poo came out. He shit himself as well.

He's going to be writing letters to the girl and the teacher explaining why he felt the need to do it, how sorry he is and the steps he's gonna take to make sure something like this doesn't happen again. Nice one to whoever came up with that one.

I reckon he might just be regretting it. Hopefully it's lesson learned.

My word. Tough justice in your house, mate. I'm a bit taken aback, to be honest

Taken aback? Proper parenting isn't that rare, surely?

He had already been punished at school by the time he got home. To my mind, some well chosen words, backing up the point, hopefully made by the school about the inappropriateness of what he had just said would probably have sufficed.

I have had 2 teens. I've never punished either of them, beyond letting them hear my views. There has never seemed any need. I trust anyone who has met my boy would support this

I have met your lad and he didn't even buy me a pint.

I don't know where you went wrong....

He was very polite but I think he was intimidated by my Canadian accent.

The school shouldn't be 100% responsible for the childs discipline. Its thinking like that that leads to the shirking of parental responsibility, which is unfortunately so common these days.

You are aware his boy isn't yours aren't you? Just because you have never punished your kids (seriously? Not even a naughty step or a Telly ban?) doesn't make someone else doing it worthy of criticism.

It's not like the lad got the buckle end, either. He got a bollocking and had to write some letters. Is fucking right, in my view. Kids should face up to what they've done and make amends. What possible harm is there in that?

Is right. No one has a bigger say in parenting my kids than me and their mum. Kids would be much better behaved in school if their parents weren't either passive or obstructive when they've fucked up.

When I was a kid, if I moaned about an unfair punishment in school, my mum said, "Well if the teacher says you were in the wrong, you must have been so".

Yesterday however, I had to deal with a parent who screamed, "Fuck off you cunt" down the phone to my colleague when he explained that we were excluding his daughter for maliciously setting off a fire alarm - and she'd been caught doing so on CCTV!

I hope it wasn't your PE teacher mate because that is not on.

I hope it's not because he's black...

Joking apart, yes! He settled out of court for racial discrimination when he was made redundant when our old gaff closed and we were merged with another school. He had the best results of any PE teacher in the two schools and yet lost his job. The fact that he was the only black member of staff in either school made that an especially stupid decision by the sociopath in charge at that time. Still, he had a reputed 50,000 reasons to laugh about it afterwards...

Your mum was engaging in a logical fallacy, known as argumentum ad verecundiam.

I hope you pointed this out.
