How do we break teams down at home?

My disdain was not directed at tactics or coaching; it was directed at those who think it's everything. When opposing coaches start to look at what he's doing and develop tactical plans to overcome it, what will give us the extra edge is self-belief. You could be coached by a combination of Rinus Michels, Pep Guardiola and Arrigo Sacchi but if you don't feel positive or confident about yourself and your teammates then you'll lose.

Agree to disagree. Motivation is simply getting players to follow a tactical plan.

If the tactical plan is shit in the first place, like it was with Rodgers, all the motivation in the world won't mean a thing.

If it was simple, every player would be at the top of his game - fitness permitting - all the time. You only have to see the way playing at Anfield sucks the life out of players to see what pressure and stress can do to top class sportsmen. It's almost physically palpable in The Kop sometimes.

You should become old like me and then you'll hit the right answer, "ït's a bit of both and some other stuff too", more often than not.,

It's nowhere near as much psychology as anybody thinks. Psychology flows from confidence. Confidence flows from past success and anticipation of future success. All flow from tactics and player instructions. What people call mental strength and the ability to recover from setbacks is simply great tactics and training.

I know what you mean, the stereotype Vialli spoke about in the Italian Job, I don't think there's too many around here that match that.  I think the quill just needs sharpening.

Sports psychology is easy compared to creating a tactical system and training it to the nth detail to outwit the world's best managers.

Yes it is, but you need both systems and mentality.  And to experience the pressure and atmosphere - especially at a nervous Anfield - is instructive.

Rodgers used to do mostly 5-a-side games in training. Klopp does exclusively tactical work. It's not a coincidence.

Not sure why you quoted my post in that - you did nothing to address the point I made.

Confidence, self-belief, mental strength and all that malarkey are things that do matter.  (And things that Klopp has apparently improved.)  As do tactics, obviously, but only a nobhead would think you have to have one or the other.

Two strikers and a bit of width and pace.

It's all well and good having tricky number 10 types, and that is one approach to breaking down the opposition that we need to employ. But it can't be the only thing in our locker, or we will come unstuck more times than we would like.

So, Coutinho and Firmino, if both fit and firing, will help us go through teams in the final third. But it needs something else too. Two strikers - we've never seen Sturridge and Benteke, not saying that will be perfect, but we've never seen it - and some pace and width; perhaps Sane from Germany might be the player to help with that.

Klopp has done a lot in a short space of time so far, but there is more to come. He will build this up and give us a variety of ways to win games.

3rd man running like for our goal. Coutinho or moreno plays ball in, lallana knocks it down, hendo arrives and finishes.

same for lallana although there was an extra link in that play. Ball played in, laid back to benteke, lallana makes excellent run off the ball, benteke finds him, lallana misses.

We need to play with two strikers at home and get players in and around them. Get the ball into the box and create pressure/pen teams back - they'll crack.

One man up front, tippy tappy slow passing and not many bodies in the box with everything in front of the opposition isn't the answer.

The way we started today was as well as we ve played at home in ages. High tempo and had them penned in. We got the goal but couldnt get the 2nd and we re always going to concede.
