How do we break teams down at home?

The way we started today was as well as we ve played at home in ages. High tempo and had them penned in. We got the goal but couldnt get the 2nd and we re always going to concede.

The tempo was decent at the start although we didn't always get enough in the box....also 2nd half when we really needed to create pressure and get them penned in there was a ten minute spell between 62 and them scoring where the game just drifted aimlessly with us doing nothing of note - yes that will happen but when you are at home chasing it you can't afford it to happen.

Eventually today we got something but only after a 2nd half where we hardly worked their keeper and huffed and puffed without much quality.

Pace, movement and intelligence are needed.

The answer is simply to get better players. For the past 6 years bar one we've been a midtable team because we have too many midtable players. Today, we had Benteke, Lallana, Milner in attack. Would any of these players genuinely look out of place playing for West Brom? Klopp is a great manager but he isnt going to get these players to have the adequate ball control, awareness and composure it takes to score against packed defences. Thats on the players.

Benteke should only be a back up for us. We need pace and movement and he doesn't have enough of either. If he starts it should be in a strike partnership. Benteke has started so many games as Sturridge has been unavailable and Ings too. Origi had an iffy start to his Liverpool career but at the moment he looks like he is growing as a player and may actually go on to have a good career at Liverpool.

Anyway, how do you break sides down at Anfield? Pace. Movement. Two strikers. Bit more width.

Too much from us goes down the middle and when it doesn't click we try 25 yard shots, and if one doesn't fly in it just gets more and more frustrating. It was that sort of day today against West Brom.

There is no easy answer to this, You can can go full alehouse yourself which gets you so far or else you have to get much better players that can consistently score half chances

A good starting point would be to work on our dead ball situations, Without Stevie we have no-one that can score from a FK and we may as well put the ball out for a GK for all the threat we pose from corners. Laying siege to the opposition should result in lots of dangerous dead ball opportunities virtually all of which we currently waste  The other thing we can do is not to let these dross outfits score from set pieces. A keeper that can dominate his area and catch the fucking ball is essential

Pulis set up today with a bank of 5 and a bank of 4. We did the difficult bit and got our noses in front then Mignolet shat his pants. Had we kept it tight they would have come forward and we would have killed them off on the counter, Getting that first goal then defending well is the key to seeing of the park-the-bus shite,

Top clubs must face the same puzzle all the time and besides having better players than us they get round it more often than not.

Pace, good movement and intelligence and players in the box and around the ball in there is the key - we build so slowly at home that teams are always able to get back into shape and keep it against us - we have to start pulling them out

You're right that we need pace and movement, but most of our attackers simply aren't capable of providing this and even if they do nothing comes of it. Take Lallana's chance today. It was a great fluid move but his finishing let him down. How many of our so called "chances" are only speculative long range efforts? I'd venture almost all of them considering most matches we end up with 25 shots but only about 4 on target. Simply, most of our attackers lack the talent to break down teams and settle for longshots.

I think we need Lucas at home as well because he allows Can to get forward more and protect our very suspect defence. Can is so much better going forward than towards his own goal that it leaves us at a disadvantage when defending. We also need to choose either Lallana or Coutinho rather than both and as for Benteke,Dios Mio! He makes Heskey look like he had a degree in making forward runs and movement. It has to be said that we look so much better with Origi on the pitch and Benteke on the bench as a last resort.

A goalkeeper

Clyne Skrtel Sakho Moreno

Lucas

Can Henderson

Coutinho

Ibe Origi

Firmino and Lallana to rotate with the front three. Allen and Milner with the midfield three. Benteke to be used exclusively off the bench.

Thats as good as we have at the moment and I really like that A. Goalkeeper fella although I have never heard of him. Has to be better than Mignolet.

Games like that go to underline just how important players like Suare are. He would get under the skin of Olsson and Gardner, sly digs, diving, stamp on the foot, anything to rattle them, and their concentration would go.

Best thing about Suarez in those games was when he managed to turn an onrushing player.

Sounds like a plan.

Lucas would have contributed nothing apart from a yellow card to yesterday's game.  Can and Henderson, while miles away from what I would call top class midfielders, are comfortably better than Lucas in almost every scenario.

We should have moved Lallana centrally yesterday, he was the only one who was actually looking as though he might have been able to create something.  Coutinho was wasteful in possession, apart from his chip to Lallana to set up the goal.

The defence against the set play is shocking though.  Every opposition team knows it, and we will continue to get mugged if teams play for it.  I can't wait for Sakho to return.
