January Transfer Window 2016

I agree that Klopp will have been the one who didn't want to pay what Shakthar wanted and I was sure that was the case before his comments. The owners would have went all out for Klopps first signing imo, he has said he doesn't want to overpay for players so it's no surprise that deal was not done.

Everyone's been saying he will be judged on his transfers so it wouldn't have been the best idea paying over the odds, a new signing isn't going to make a massive difference this season and if it was a bad signing Klopp would get stick for it.

Well the asking price was £38m and remained consistently at that.  Yep in latter stages there were articles mentioning 53m Euro but effectively give or take exchange rate fluctuations it remained around £38m.  So if that was their asking price and they never budged from it you could argue it wasn't 'over the odds'.  It was just their original valuation.  It was way over what LFC apparently offered obviously, and therefore by definition in excess of LFC's value of the player.

But then why waste time bidding nearly 40% below the asking price in the first place?  And why fly out to Miami to offer 40% below? And then have to fly back empty handed. That's the baffling part.

Not bothered really. The January window is a load of bollocks designed to extort desperate clubs. This season is a write off to be honest as has been since Rodgers was left in charge of the purse strings and summer prep, absolutely ridiculous decision. No point compounding that with players we don't even want or who will vacuum up our entire transfer kitty in one go.

Look forward to the summer, let's see who Klopp has lined up - if the club don't back him they can fuck right off.

It really is that simple.

Buy quality over quantity.

If it was that simple everybody would be doing it.

Madrid tried that particular method with their 'Pavones Y Zidanes' scheme and it failed. We need to do better but the idea that it's simple is flawed because every club under the sun would be buying well.

It sounds so simple but the best way to not require a desperate scramble for reinforcements in January is to not making a fucking balls-up of the summer recruitment drive.

The other thing is to stop following the pattern of recent recruitment drives which have consisted of clinging to the hope of signing real quality at "value" prices while at the same time throwing millions at "potential" and players who lack experience to cope with the level we are supposedly wanting to be at.

Spot on. The simple issue is we've degraded the squad over successive summers, but what's astounding is that we've not passively degraded it, we've actively degraded it.

Instead of letting our house fall down by not spending enough money on its upkeep, we brought a succession of people in who weren't qualified builders, and they succeeded to demolish walls and replace them with cardboard, knocked down the garage and replaced it with an ice cream van and an inflatable penis.

January is bollocks, the damage needs to be undone in the summer.

Houllier's first summer is the best example I can think of of what a manager should do with his first transfer window. It was a plan, everyone was part of a plan, a goalie, two centre backs, a DF and some secondary attacking options - bang, team transformed.

What we don't need is to be floundering around and spunking cash on people just for the sake of it like the mancs are doing 'oooh let's get him for £30 million, he was good in Italia 90 and  the fans have heard of him so they might shut the fuck up and buy some Matt Busby hip flasks'

We need to just back Klopp now as a fanbase, if there's even  the slightest hint they're not backing him they need taking to task. He's a talented manager and he'll get us back on the road to where we need to be, he just needs time - and money.

The smart play was this. Next transfer window there will be more buyers because of the tv money and there some of the advantages of playing for a big club will come through, After ll, If Bournemouth, say, or another small club can come in for the same money as us what's the advantage to the player?

.

Yes. Let's wait for greater demand from cash rich competitors. That's the smart way to do business.

A summer window like Ter Stegan, Ricardo Rodriguez, Xhaka and Teixiera would really kick start the Klopp era.

If we're going after premier league players, i'd like to see us go after Ruben Loftus Cheek at Chelsea. He's got everything that lad.

Unfortunately, the fees quoted for those players are rediculous. Rodriguez and Xhaka are both valued at 30+million pounds, we know Teixeira will be at leat 35mill, and Ter Stegen is minimum 20.

Too rich for our blood im afraid.

I think we'll make a marquee 30+ mill signing then try to find cheap gems, which klopp is good at.

Am I right in thinking that that Dortmund transfer ninja is joining us this summer?

Can't remember where that fable came from, possible sighting on Twitter, but Michael Zorc was said to be joining us 12 months after Klopp.

This being the case, and it probably isn't, I do wonder if Klopp is happy to wait for Zorc to join him before opening up the treasure chest.
