Fucking hell why are some people still salty about Rodgers? We've got one of the greatest managers in the world now, Rodgers has a place in our history but we really don't need to be discussing the same shit we've been discussing for the past 18 months.

The fuck is wrong with you? Do you aspire to be a mall cop, the petty power you attempt to wield over people who don't give a fuck?

And we were a better team overall in 08/09 but that 13 game winning streak or whatever it was was absolutely epic so it tips it for me.

A better team overall?

It wasn't even close Rafa's side would have absolutely destroyed the 13/14 side.

More points as well as playing in Europe.

Also unlike Rodgers, Rafa wasn't a manager who had no ability or interest in managing a European side.

Rodgers should have been sacked after the Madrid game.

Some proper mismatches in those sides. Imagine Carra/Hyypia trying to deal with Suarez/Sturridge... Even worse, 13/14 version of Gerrard trying to track the runs of the rampant 08/09 version, as well as Skrtel and co stopping Torres from scoring.

Agree that the 08-09 team was better balanced and probably better overall, but the 13/14 season was better for the pure entertainment and unexpectedness of the challenges.

Ps! Wonder if the clubs eventually winning the league (Utd vs City) affected the mood towards the campaign as well. I can remember being incredibly bitter during the latter part of the 08/09 season (yes, STILL looking at you, Webb) while despite Gerrard's misfortune and the heartbreaking end to it I never experienced quite the same emotions in 13/14. I was literally made at everyone during the last weeks of 08/09. Anyone feel the same?

Edit; Atkinson's inability to stop the timewasting of Chelsea still grates me though...

It is not fair to discuss the past while we have a newly appointed World Class manager. Nonetheless, this thread could be interesting for historical retroductive analysis and discussion. Although I am not a big fan of statistics and quantitative data, let's have a general overview at the three seasons in the Premier League era we have finished runners up in the Premier League.

2nd place under Houllier:

Pos Team Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts Qualification or relegation 1 Arsenal © 38 26 9 3 79 36 +43 87 2002–03 UEFA Champions League Group stage 2 Liverpool 38 24 8 6 67 30 +37 80

2nd place under Rafa:

os Team Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts Qualification or relegation 1 Manchester United © 38 28 6 4 68 24 +44 90 2009–10 UEFA Champions League Group stage 2 Liverpool 38 25 11 2 77 27 +50 86

2nd place under Rodgers:

Considering that Rafa's Liverpool reached also the Champions League QF, it appears the strongest and overall better Liverpool team. It scored more points compared to Rodgers' and Houllier's teams, finished with a better goal difference and attack than the Champions (manutd) and the third best defence in the league. Liverpool under Rodgers was more prolific than any other Liverpool team, however the 50 (!) goals conceded (8th best defence in the league) renders it far from brilliant as many people suggested. The season we finished second under Houllier, we reached also the QF of the Champions League, while we had the best defence in the League.

world class??? maybe but ffs give it time.. just wait and see...

He's world class from his time at Dortmund, even if by some chance he doesnt do very well here(which I doubt.)

Rafa was world class at Valencia before he came here and has been since.

You obviously need to realise that English football is only part of world football and not the 'be all and end all' of it.

We only needed to draw.

Ah, the 'what if' scenario.

But the real question is why people like you should expect the team to approach that game any different to the previous 10? No one before or at the game was saying its chelsea lets play for a draw. Everyone including me said let's fucking get at them and blow them away.

But then if we'd have played for a draw and stevie still slips, or they scored the winner in the last minute breakaway, cunts like you would say why didnt we play like we did in the previous 10 games?

in other words cunts want it both ways and want hindsight as their lovechild.

Both houllier and Rafa's sides shat all over the Rodgers one, there's no debate to be had IMO. Both sides had world class players running right down their spine and regularly mixed it with the best, both foreign and domestic.

The only times we played well against a formidable opponent, the drubbing of arsenal and Moyes's mancs, we were inspired by Suarez's genius.

Rodgers assembled the worst Liverpool squad since Souness and it was getting worse and worse.

No.

Most of those "cunts" knew we had no meannigful midfield for the whole fucking season and just decided to roll over and enjoy the ride.

We were flawed defensively, so when the goals dried up, we were fucked.

End of.

Yet neither of those manager's best sides got as close to winning the title as rodger's did.

Dont do it to yourselves. Different eras, different teams. Rodgers team late 2014 played better stuff than anything Ged or benitez's teams ever did.

Utter bollocks.no one thought or knew the goals dried up. And if we were flawed defensively, playing for a draw is a fataly flawed strategy.
