I like him, but he's the weak link in our breaks, particularly if anyone looks to pass it to him in our own half and he has his back to a player who might pressure him. He's not aware enough of what's around him to be the pivot in turning defence into attack.

He'll get a dozen goals this season though.

A dozen?

Has he managed that in the entire time he's been here? I don't think he has scored AND assisted a dozen yet, has he?

If he has, my mistake but I don't honestly think he'll get anywhere near a dozen.

I believe it was 7 goals and 8 assists last season, and that only really started once Klopp arrived. I expect more from him this season, and I think he should be somewhere around that mark.

The England goal might help a bit should we ever decide to sell. It seems Klopp likes him, as he tries to put a shift in and close people down, but the goals and assist columns are lacking. If he comes a bit deeper he might be able to play from midfield, but early signs show he doesn't have a midfielders instinct - we've already seen times where he receives the ball facing our goal and turns, only to get robbed and put us under pressure.

Maybe he will do well enough for England to keep him in the eye so we can sell in January, and then we pick up someone like Coric or Pulisic, who both have much higher potential.

Glad he scored. He was unlucky with the shot that hit the inside of the post. From what I saw he seemed England's best player. He put through a lovely ball for Henderson, but poor old Jordan was still working out which foot went first.

Hopefully this might be the season he starts putting chances away.

I get the impression he's going to reach new heights this season.

Fitness is massive for him, I don't think he's actually ever been fit before and refused to push himself too hard in games. Always heard that rumour of a heart murmur or something similar, and if true, I wonder if that affected him mentally, so he never trained as hard as he could or run as hard as he could in games.
