Things like this, the mass shootings, the police racism and brutality, even that Making a Murder documentary all put me right of ever wanting to live in the States, and it used to be my dream.

It's such a massive country though it's just a case of picking the right gaff. Vermont or New England or some sh*t.

WASHINGTON—In an emotionally charged press conference addressing gun control legislation, NRA vice president Wayne LaPierre delivered a tearful speech Wednesday honoring the thousands of Americans who have tragically fallen victim to background checks. “Because of our nation’s senseless gun control laws, this poor man with a known history of domestic violence was unable to procure an assault-style weapon, despite his desperate wishes to own and operate such a weapon,” said the visibly distraught lobbyist while gesturing towards a framed portrait of a middle-aged man, one of dozens of photos of victims displayed around the conference room. “It’s unthinkable that in a country like America, a person is legally prohibited from purchasing AR-15s or AK-47 assault rifles just because he or she is revealed to have a criminal record or even a pattern of mental illness. And yet, every day, another 20 citizens will be denied assault weapons due to background checks indicating that they were arrested for making violent threats to a coworker. And for what? For what, I ask you?” LaPierre added that until we live in a world without background checks, prospective gun owners can work to prevent tragedy by purchasing weapons at gun shows.

Canada getting in on the act now.

Canada shootings: Murder charges over Saskatchewan deaths

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder after shootings in Canada's western Saskatchewan province, police say.
The boy - who cannot be named because of his age - is also charged with seven counts of attempted murder.
Four people were killed and several injured after the shootings at La Loche Community School and another location.
Friday's attack in the remote community was "every parent's worst nightmare", Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said.
'Pain and sorrow'
At a news conference on Saturday, Grant St Germaine from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said the suspect would appear in court next week.
"The days and weeks are going to be difficult as we come to terms with the impact of what has happened in our community," he said.
"It's a sad and difficult time and no words will take away the pain and sorrow of what has happened."

The RCMP said Dayne Fontaine, 17, and his brother Drayden, 13, were shot dead in a house.
The gunmen then went to the school, killing teacher Adam Wood, 35, and 21-year-old teaching assistant Marie Janvier, the daughter of acting mayor Kevin Janvier.
The suspect was later disarmed and arrested. The motive behind the shootings is unclear

Not a school shooting but here's one where everyone had guns and kind of dumps a big brown one on the NRAs usual argument of "if everyone had a gun..."

Father and son die in shootout at Pearl River County gun shop

PICAYUNE -- A father and son were killed in a shootout with another man and his son at a gun store Saturday in Pearl River County's Henleyfield community.

Pearl River County deputies responding to the shooting on Mississippi 43 about 3:15 p.m. found the store owner and his son dead in the store, Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said.

The owner's wife was working at the store when two customers, a man and his son, entered to pick up a firearm that had been repaired.

"There was some contention about a $25 fee," Tucker said.

In an attempt to clear up the dispute, the woman called her husband, who later arrived with his son. An argument ensued between the owners and the customers.

"During this argument, we believe there might have been some pushing and shoving," Tucker said. "One of the customers and one of the owners produced firearms. We don't know who shot first."

All four men were shot. The two customers were airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, Tucker said.

The wife of the owner was not wounded.

Investigators are trying to determine how the situation unfolded before any charges are filed, Sheriff David Allison said.

Relax, people, Texas has got this one sorted.

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/university-texas-austin-allow-concealed-guns-classrooms-n520331

The University of Texas' giant main campus in Austin will allow handguns in classrooms, the school's president said Wednesday — even though he opposes the idea.

Gregory L. Fenves, who became president of the university last June, just two days after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a law allowing concealed handguns on Texas' college campuses, called the decision his greatest challenge so far, in aletter to the campus.

"Let me say that I do not believe handguns belong in a university setting, in a campus environment dedicated to education and research, but nevertheless as president of a public university, I am responsible for implementing" the new law, he said at a news briefing Wednesday.

The law, which takes effect Aug. 1, allows licensed gun owners 21 and older to carry their weapons on campus if they're fully concealed. The university has allowed licensed holders to do that for 20 years, it said Wednesday, but weapons were barred inside buildings, including classrooms.

Fenves said in his letter that he agreed with a report from an advisory task force he appointed, which said that because students spend most of their time in classrooms, continuing to bar guns from classrooms would violate the new law.

The law, known as SB 11, made Texas only the eighth state to allow licensed citizens to carry concealed weapons on college campuses, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Attention was particularly drawn to the main UT campus in Austin, one of the 10 biggest in the United States, with more than 50,000 students, where many student and faculty groups petitioned and rallied against the measure.

"Many parents of current and prospective students have communicated to me their grave concerns about allowing handguns on the UT Austin campus, especially in university housing and classrooms," Fenves wrote in a separate letter (PDF) to University of Texas System Chancellor William McRaven.

"I have significant concerns about how the law will affect our ability to recruit and retain faculty members and students," he added.

But "as president of The University of Texas at Austin, I am responsible for adhering to the requirements of SB 11," he wrote.

The university has said the law will actually affect few of the campus' students. It estimated that fewer than 1 percent of students have licenses to carry in the first place, and it noted that the law doesn't apply to fraternity and sorority houses, private residential facilities or sports facilities.
