Huddersfield Town’s manager David Wagner may utilise his Liverpool connections to take Joe Gomez on loan when the transfer window reopens in January.

The Liverpool defender has endured a torrid time with injury since Jürgen Klopp arrived at Anfield, rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament on England Under-21 duty just days after the new manager took charge and then suffering an achilles problem in pre-season.

Gomez, who made an impressive start to his Anfield career under Brendan Rodgers and is highly regarded by Klopp, returned to full training last week. The 19-year-old is still some way from match fitness, however, and Wagner‚ best man at Klopp’s wedding‚ is interested in offering the former Charlton Athletic player much-needed game time from January.

Huddersfield have made a fine start to the Championship season but missed the chance to draw level on points with Newcastle United on Wednesday when they suffered a 3-1 defeat at Preston North End.

Joe played 45 minutes today in a 5-0 friendly win over Accrington Stanley at Melwood today.

Offal Report

Joe Gomez took a further step in his rehabilitation on Sunday by playing 45 minutes of a behind-closed-doors friendly at Melwood.

The Liverpool defender, who has been out of action since October 2015 after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury, returned to training with the team last month.

And the latest phase of Gomez’s recovery saw the 19-year-old come on at half-time in a friendly encounter with League Two side Accrington Stanley.

Jürgen Klopp recently explained plans for such an appearance for the England youth international, as the club adopt a patient approach with his comeback.

“It is a long way,” said the manager. “He was injured for a long time and now it is a long way back, so there is no rush in it. We can give him time to come back in the right moment.”

Klopp’s side claimed a 5-0 victory over Accrington, with Academy forward Rhian Brewster notching a hat-trick and Emre Can and Harry Wilson also on target.

A number of other senior players featured in a strong line-up for the game, including Loris Karius, Lucas Leiva, Joel Matip, James Milner and Alberto Moreno.

The Reds – current Premier League leaders – return to competitive action next Saturday afternoon, when they take on Southampton at St Mary’s.

Accrington Stanley? Who are they?

He's a lot like Finnan in that regard, he's an 7/10 every week. He's actually a better defender than he is an attacker but is effective enough going forward. If he improved his passing and crossing he'd be one of the best in the world. As it is I think only Bellerin in the Premier League is better. Clyne is class.

ball he put in for Mané today was right on the money even better than one for Lallana at Boro.

He doesn't do it enough for me though, he gets in great positions because of his pace but more often than not his cross isn't great, saying that hardly even seen him get the runaround or beaten in 1 on 1.
