Because of the injuries to Arsenal cbs got me thinking of how strong a squad they have. Ospina Debuchy Mertesacker Koscielny Gibbs Arteta Wilshere Rosicky Walcott Ox-Chamberlain Welbeck looks a stronger second 11 than Chelsea or even City.

It actually looks a stronger first eleven than the one Arsenal put out against us.

The big fear for us is that when Wenger finally steps down and they stop persisting with his long-term experiment of trying to win a pure title, they may replace him with someone prepared to address the missing ingredient which sees them fall short year after year.

As a club they're in an enviable position and are well placed to win titles if they didn't keep self-sabotaging every summer.

Can you imagine Diego Simeone taking over there?

World class centre forward and a fucking animal in the centre of midfield.

Obviously the fans would boo their defenders for occasionally clearing the ball.

What are you alluding to them missing Lizzie? a world class striker, being able to win ugly or addressing their tin heart?

They lack all 3 of course, but it's the latter 2, compounded by so often playing striplings/attacking midfielders in a defensive midfield role, which are at the heart of his decade-plus blind spot.

Even with Van Persie in the form of his life everyone knew they wouldn't win the league under Wenger, because the former issues remained.  He chooses not to fix them every summer.

Of course, someone else may come in and wipe out the strengths he's responsible for, creating new weaknesses.  He's been a superb manager, so I'm certainly not suggesting it's a done deal they would improve further, it's football isn't it.  What I am suggesting though, is that while Wenger is manager they will continue to be what they are, and have been for a very long time.  Good but not great.

Can't blame them though, spoilt on a sumptuous diet of George Graham football for so long it would take a hard heart to expect them to swap champagne for Blue Nun.

Watched the analysis of Arsenal by Carra and Neville after coming back from the match. They pinpointed clearly all the problems with Arsenal, for example, them not replacing the likes of Vieira. Thierry Henry seemed to insist that their midfield was the best they had (Cazorla and Ramsey, I think it was). Both Carra and Neville seemed confused by this, and with good reason. Post-Invincibles era Arsenal became much weaker, they argued. In all areas. Why hasn't he addressed that? More confused looks at Henry, as he still points to the two midfielders on the super-sized iPad. As long as Arsene doesn't address any of the problems, they'll never win the league.

However, for 19 seasons, without fail, Wenger has either won it or finished in the top 4.

If Simeone took over at Arsenal he'd kill half their players in the first training session.

They're in a weird position, seemingly set up to kick on with their financial might, but they've made being an anaemic version of Barca their whole identity; to the point where clearances are derided and they laud players like Ozil waltzing through games wafting his hanky at the ball. It's ingrained now, and some of the fans would demand it from any incoming manager.

Great result that, on the whole. Both sides could have won it apparently. Wont see the game until midnight Thursday because NZ is turning rapidly into a third world country. It's a fucking disgrace.

After 3 games, we match the manure in points and goals for and against. How wierd is that????

but we are above them.... thats the main thing...

You've just highlighted one of the problems with modern football. What happened to first is first and second is nowhere? Finishing fourth is not an achievement to be proud of. If they doubled the number of teams in the champions league would you think that finishing 8th was the sign of a great manager?

If they only took two for the Champs League would it be less of an achievement?

He has kept his team consistently near the top - no one can argue that.

3 types of fans says Brendan

the fan who supports the team no matter what or who the manager is.

the fan who wants the manager to earn his support and that's fine by me he said.

the fan who you can never please. If you win 4 nil it should ve been 5.
