I'd give it to Sadio. One of the first names on the team sheet. Always gives everything. Has a great relationship with the fans. Helped us sign quality players like Keita and Mo. Plays through injury. Handles himself like a consummate professional.

I don't understand this idea that the captain has to be loyal. Suarez was the best captain we never had. We'd rather give the captaincy to a loyal clogger than a quality player that carries us every week on the field just because we're afraid he might leave us. It's stupid.

Houllier made a brave call in taking the armband off Hyypia for Gerrard. At least he had an obvious choice, though.

Milner? Rarely plays.

Coutinho? Probably won't be here beyond summer.

Lallana? Always injured.

Mane? Probably a bit too soon.

I wouldn't even bother examining options beyond that. Just get the thing stitched onto Keita's shirt ahead of next year.

This.

It should be Milner, and he should be playing every week. Either at left back or sitting infront of the back four. Despite his limitations, he needs to be playing simply so we have at least one player in the team that is mentally strong and has experience of winning stuff.

Suggested this a few weeks back on the MF.

I was negged by Code.

Tough, mentally strong, not a complete idiot.

Milner that is, not Code.

He may lack the finer points of playing the position but I just feel he would be an infinitely better option than Henderson and Wijnaldum's regular hide and seek displays there.

Milner there with Lallana and Coutinho infront of him when everyone is fit.

I'd happily see the other three fucked off in the summer. Looks like Can will be anyway.

Don't think he is mobile enough. Need to be a Kante to cover the ground.

IMO he would be a passenger teams could soon bypass.

I wouldn’t ask him to play like Kante, that would be fucking stupid because as you say he just doesn’t have the legs.

He could play the Didi role though and make us significantly better imo.

Even from Didi’s time mate I think times have moved on.

Game now, particularly under Klopp, it is all about rapid transition.

You are getting pummelled and bang it’s 3-0 to us. As you saw in the first half the other night, it is footballs rope a dope.

Milner does not fit that role.

Our problem is that there's such a gap between our shit players and good players that the shit players try to do fancy stuff to imitate the good players. They should just be acknowledging their limitations and running hard, doing simple stuff to carry the good players.

Said for ages this is the issue,  Lallana for me would have been the obvious choice and I thought given he was skipper down at Soton he would be moved into the role, His erratic form early on and now the injuries have probably killed that option . The only thing Klopp could do immediately is to put Milner in ahead of Henderson and make him captain, Potentially disruptive and not a long term solution, I'm afraid Henderson keeps the arm-band for now by default ,

Pathetic really it takes years for these things to get sorted, Mignolet , Lovren, Moreno, Sturridge all been on borrowed time far too long.

I think we have to be approaching a point for Klopp where its obvious we need to improve on Henderson. Both in terms of the captaincy and his position.

Hes the epitomy of average and its far too important a role to have an average player in.

Its these types of decisions that could make or break Klopp over the long term. Think he needs to just get ruthless and do it or it'll come back to haunt him.

This is it in a nutshell.Henderson should be a benchwarmer at best, let alone captain. He's a good lad but nowhere near good enough.

I don’t think so mate.

Who would you get to replace him,. Long term.

Milner is a busted flush. Never going to spark life into a side. Neither is Henderson. We need a dynamic midfielder.

Keita is arriving in the summer to fill that dynamic midfielder role. What we really need is tactical nous and experience which will be much more useful in settling the team down during pressure situations, and aiding the development of the youngsters coming through. Milner is currently the closest we have to that.

Considering our team is missing a player like Carrager who is vocal and a good organiser - worth remembering he played when Gerrard was captain.

Henderson being captain wouldn't matter a jot if VVD was in the team, or Mascherano was alongside him. I think as captain it isn't really that big a deal - one of the reasons I think we would all like Milner in the team is not to be captain as such, but because he is a level headed, experienced player with a lot of bottle.

Stick a couple of cunts in this team and Henderson being captain would be a moot point.

Judging by this forum, we have a bunch of those already.

We need quick feet and lots of stamina in midfield to play the way Klopp wants, which is why Henderson (and Moreno) keep getting chances to improve from the manager. I think he's been proven partially right with Moreno, but imo Henderson's flaws as a CM are even less coachable than Moreno's traits. The only position I'd advocate using Henderson in is the RB role, as his stamina and decent crosses would come in handy. He'd have the play in front of him as well. He'd probably still be our 4th best RB if Clyne can ever recover.

I know he gives his all every game, but I can't wait to get rid of him, hopefully he spends some time on the bench 2nd half of the season, and Spurs or someone else need to fill their English quota in the summer.

He should have been a right back.

Guardiola seemingly took one look at Delph and thought "Nope, shit at passing, shooting, all the other qualities required of a midfielder...but he can run a lot. Yep, fullback."

Learn how to not be 80 yards out of position. Job done. Half decent fullback.

Milner is not in the team and his career is starting to fade. He should not be the captain.

We do not have a player who fits the bill, and Henderson is captain almost by default. As such I won’t stick the boot into him. It is fair game to criticize when his performance level isn’t good enough, and against Sevilla it wasn’t.
