The question i want answered is why do we have to spend the money the moment it arrives all the time? it's like we're so obsessed with getting CL every year (when we've got it once in the last 5 years) that they spend all the transfer kitty every summer without succession planning or any real squad shaping beyond just blinkered short termism.

Take Mourinho for example, he's been at Chelsea for two seasons and he's already got a settled first eleven and can add just one or two names. We have a manager that has no idea on a settled first eleven or what formation to play these players in and he's entering his forth season with us. The squad is so unbalanced it's untrue, we've got no DM, no left backs, an average keeper and a non entity of a back up and about 8 strikers when we play one.

We've received £125m in two years and we'll have Lallana, Lovren and potentially Benteke to show for it. Then when someone like Mitrovic or Wijnaldum has a sensational breakout season next year we'll ship Benteke off to some Turkish club for about 8m and sign one of them for 25-30m and the cycle will repeat itself.

Can someone just tell them to fuck off with these lower level premier league players. Brendan mustn't of read his 400 page dossier recently because everything he said he'd instil he's done the opposite. Now it's gone full cycle... he was shipping off our £35m expensive mistake Carroll because he doesn't fit our style of play and now he's signing a big lummox for £32m to save our season before it's even begun.

I agree. If we don't bring in any more players we should finish 6th but if we buy Benteke we will possibly still get 6th or maybe even 5th. Either way it doesn't justify spending 32 million on Benteke to stand still. We would be better of saving the money till next summer add and 20-30 million to it and bring in a truly top class proven striker who will get us 4th at least.

Maybe Boss sad the above because he thinks Rodgers is absolutely fucking atrocious at judging a players ability & buying players that actually suit the system he wants to play? Sorry, just a crazy suggestion.

Maybe he did. But hasn't it been said a zillion times before?

Pure conjecture.

We need a center forward NOW. People are just pissed because it looks likes it'll be Benteke and not Ximinez McSquiminez from La Liga.

Didn't you use a similar line of argument when people opposed the Downing signing? Weren't you also, subsequently, made to look like an absolute fool?

I cannot believe that some of our fans would prefer us to sign a better centre forward than Benteke. It makes me sick.

What we need now is a DM, a proper defensive oriented destroyer type ala Mascherano. That would benefit us more than a 7th striker.

Been thinking on it, why pay £30m for a player who we don't even know how to play with?

When was the last time, Drogba aside, has a top

Club bought a big target man and achieved success, in all European top leagues?

Why can't we buy a 5-10m target man and see if it the theory works in practice, before we spunk £30m on the idea?

I'd rather spend £32m on Delph and Berahino, and KNOW that the money will

Improve us and we keep the same system.

Benteke is a plan B for a good side or plan A for a shit one. Chelsea and City can pay £30m for their second choice striker, we can't.

Well, we will, but you know what I mean.

Talks will take place between Liverpool and Villa over the coming days now that the Sterling saga is over, with Benteke seen as the proven Premier League goalscorer that Brendan Rodgers needs to give his team the cutting edge that was so badly missing last season.

Proven premier league, deary me.  Biggest myth in football that playing well for a shite premier league team means anything when making the step up to a team who's expecting to consistently break down teams.

He'll fit in well with all the other proven premier league shite that Rodgers has bought.
