Christian Benteke

They have had him out on the pitch at Melwood seeing if he can fit in with our tactics....

"Ok christian, what i want you to do is make a run into the box and then we wont get the ball in there for you, right go"

Benteke stands in box and waits for 2 mins.

"Ok, great - now corners what i want you to do is take up a position where you are unmarked or going to run off your man and i will take the corner but fail to get it past the first man....your job is to run out of the area to chase their breaking player, but DO NOT challenge him - nobody is to attempt to do that until he is in our penalty area"

"Great, now tackling - half hearted and make sure you get knocked over and bullied....could you lose a couple of stone maybe, you look a bit too solid, those arms need to be thinner"

"Finally, can you play left wing back?......Christian, Christian, Christian come back, Christian...."

Brilliant!

22 goals against the bottom ten teams last season. No, not him, us - 22 fucking goals.

And there's no way this big strong lad with a one goal in two games record can help change that? He'll bag 15 against those sides alone.

Hasn't scored from a through ball assist in two years.  All his goals have come from out wide, rebounds or knocks on etc.

Getting the best out of Coutino & Firmino & getting the best out of this lump at the same time, will be seriously difficult.

With luck he fails his medical and Rodgers is forced to look at a player that fits better.

You've watched every game (or goal) over the last two years of a player you clearly don't rate ?

No offence mate, but you haven't been watching Big Ben with a jar of hand cream and a box of Kleenex next to you have you ?

Maybe that has something to do with Aston Villa's style of play rather than it all being down to Benteke, as you infer.  If there aren't many through balls to run on to it would be pretty hard to score from them.  Just because he hasn't scored from that type of service it doesn't mean he can't.  Cause and effect, innit.

Nope, people with too much time on their hands have done all that for me and compiled heat maps of where his goals come from the last two seasons.

Before anyone says Villa don't play that way, Agbonlahoor and Weiman have scored numerous goals from central areas.

There's no getting away from the fact that either Benteke or Liverpool will have to serious adapt

Only insofar as they relate to his time at Aston Villa. It doesn't necessarily mean what he does for us will follow exactly the same pattern.

Well yes he could completely change his game, or Liverpool could change theirs to suit him. Then again that was the point. Liverpool have taken a £32.5m gamble on a player changing his game rather than buying any of the top class players that would be clearly a better fit that that money buys.

All of that remains to be seen and every player is a gamble.

Think you are being a tad harsh there. He clearly knows where the net is;

Who are these top strikers, and of them, who is willing to come, and at what cost?

He's proven in the PL which a lot of foreign strikers aren't.

He's not the world's most exciting player, but that doesn't matter.

He's a bit expensive, I'll grant you that, but 32m on a decent striker is better than 16m each on two poor ones.

Proven in the premier league means fuck all. He's played well for a small club, just like Lallana, Downing, Carroll, Young and all those other numerous players that failed to make the step up (a lot more than the foreign players that didn't cut it in the league who get used as an example for why its some sort of special league)

46m Euro buys an awful lot on the continent, so I'm not having that we couldn't afford or find a suitable striker that would slot right in.

Who? Well that's the jobs of the scouts and Rodgers.

So why haven't your club looked at him?

Utd City and Arsenal all need strikers and none have looked at this guy.

Looking at his assists he averages three a season. We have lost 11 goals from last season if you take in Borini, Sterling, Balotelli and Lampard. We lost 50 from the season before. If this lad scores a good return of 15 and assist 5 it leaves us well short.

We needed more.
