Fracking

What about the jobs it'd have created? Cheap energy, less reliance on the Middle East.

Those are good reasons, but not enough in themselves to support fracking.

However, the Royal Society's report makes it clear that fracking can be done safely in this country. Science.

What's the point? Other countries use money from energy resources to advance their society or infrastructure. Thatcher pointlessly used the oil money to reduce the deficit and Cameron will just hand over the gas money to his mates to be squirrelled away in tax shelters.

Might as well leave the stuff in the ground

Which means that you can't let private companies driven by shareholder interest do it. Agreed.

It's apparently caused tremors in the States and there are a lot of unknowns, but when big business assured us it was safe it set my mind at ease. I'm devestated in this news.

Haven't you seen the movie? Tremors may seem frightening sure, but in reality they are fun and ace and offer the possibility of a romantic subplot.

...and has just this year elaborated on new information that has come up since then and limits to the report made in 2012. "Can be done safely" also only applied back then long as "best practices are implemented and enforced through regulation". Now even that is not clear cut anymore. Science.

Which of course always happens.

I'm looking at you, BP.

One worry I read with Fracking in the US is many company's whose duty it was to clean up after the sites ran dry, declared bankruptcy so as not pay for the clean up. It was proposed in this country that Fracking companies take insurance policies out to cover any clean up costs  but the government overruled it, which seems bizarre to me. Frackers must make good political donations.

We had one of our strategists present at a team meeting a few weeks ago, it was fascinating (as much as work can ever be fascinating). They'd built a model to work out the optimum blend of renewables, fossil and nuclear based on different scenarios or policies. Nuclear or some other immediate resource is essential. The more renewable you have the more nuclear you need.

Despite the stigma around it Nuclear is probably the best chance to limit the absolute chaos climate change is going to cause.

They are looking at Methane, which is in abundance under the sea,but it is unbelievably unstable and explosive. Never stopped them before mind you.

Methane Clathrate? Yeah I've heard of this.

Incredibly dangerous though. One of the theories behind the Storegga Slide was that it was caused by a load of this collapsing.

Have you read The Swarm by Frank Schatzing? Good sci fi yarn, deals with a lot of this stuff.

We dont have anywhere to store the nuclear waste we already built up as it is, its good to be dangerous for a few thousand years, yes, lets be ignorant of facts then and limit chaos.

Awful opinion you clearly got from some journo who told you to think this mainstream propaganda, its worse than sell fish jeans which is where that crapbelongs on st johns market looking for a kenwood jacket ya biff
