Its not as if the 50 bill deficit will be split between the remaining members. Most have not got a pot to piss in. It will fall upon Germany to make it up.

They would take a hit in trade, notably car exports and then be left to make up the bulk of deficit. Not great for them especially as their government is all over the place at the minute.

Germany's GDP is 2,970 billion Euros.

In the extremely unlikely event that they were hit with the full 50 billion, I think they would survive.

Hammond confirms to committee that the UK will pay what it owed regardless of whether or not the UK gets a trade deal.

Also confirms that the government haven't discussed what kind of deal it wants and that the costs of a no deal will dwarf the money owed to the EU.

Erm, I thought we were paying having had assurances about trade. Quick, someone phone Phil. He's not speaking off the provided script.

This bit hasn't got the attention it deserves (while we've all been distracted by the sideshow of the divorce bill).

They're not just incompetent; they're criminally negligent.  They need to be fucked off as soon as possible, so some grown-ups can take over the negotiations.

You all mock religion but them God fearing DUP MPs have done it, they've squared the circle. Foster has just told Sky News:

No red line down the Irish Sea … ( and ) very clear confirmation that the entirety of the UK is leaving the single market and the customs union.

It's a miracle!

The new passage seems to read that there will be regulatory alignment with the customs union and single market, albeit nobody is using the phrase regulatory.

In the absence of agreed solutions, the United Kingdom will maintain full alignment with those rules of the Internal Market and the Customs Union which, now or in the future, support North-South cooperation, the all- island economy and the protection of the 1998 Agreement.

Tory party civil war ahoy!

The text of the agreement showed disputes involving EU citizens in the UK can be referred to the ECJ for eight years - longer then the UK wanted and a likely flashpoint with hard Brexit-supporting Tory MPs.

Moments later, Donald Tusk, the EU Council President, representing the member states, said the UK – in a transition period – would have to accept the “whole of EU law – including new law”.

I'd put money on a Tory leadership challenge very soon.

Brexit in name only. Queue the explosion of heads at some point today.

She might as well get it over with and announce that we're staying in the customs union and single market and then as you say sit back and wait for the explosion. Wouldn't surprise if the Tory Brexiteer's tried to get rid of her now?

I think something like 70 % of the brain-dead population of Grimsby voted Leave. Now they want exemption because experts did know what they were talking about after all. Beggars belief how these people dress themselves in the morning

how can you say experts knew what they were talking about when we haven't even left yet?

The Dail Mail comments section (over 2.9k so far and counting) is not failing to disappoint. I don't expect this one to remain unmoderated, but you never know.

BARRY, HORNCHURCH, United Kingdom, less than a minute ago
We've got Trident for a reason, this is the time to unleash it on Brussels and show the EUSSR the full might of Britain. Those quislings will soon come to the table after that.

On the face of it this seems like a fudge which will piss off Brexiteers.

I'm made up.

Freedom of movement never bothered me. Free trade and in the customs union great.

The big positive is that we have now effectively distanced ourselves from the EU project and will no longer need to opt out of future integration.

Tory implosion, general election to follow and a Labour government.

Oh and the other thing, if you're a British citizen born in NI you get to keep your EU citizenship and all the protections and rights it guarantees for at least the next 10 years. If you're born this side of the Irish sea, it's getting taken off you. How the fuck is that right?

Scotland will be pushing for exactly the same.
