All the Remainers could move to Northern Ireland.

Sadiq Khan now saying London voted remain, maybe they could stay in the Customs Union.

SNP saying the same.

Obviously I am giving too much credit to idiots, but maybe it is all a super game plan by Davies to keep the whole UK in the single market, for the good of the Union.

The hardliners will be split, leave the Customs union but break up the UK or stay in the Customs union and keep the UK together.

None of this news makes any sense. One of the few things that would make the DUP dissent and potentially let the government fail is them laying the framework for a united Ireland. Sounds more like empty words to try and get to the next stage.

Could be a big boost for Norn Iron economy

Banks etc setting up shop in Belfast to stay in the single market

Equally could be a disaster for them as 90% of their trade is with the rest of the UK and the rest of the UK ends up on a different regulatory framework. Long term you'd imagine it would be better to be on the side of a market of 440 million people but it could be even more painful for them in the short to medium term than it is for the rest of the UK.

Today's events could be the end of May's leadership or even bring about the end of the government. What a shame.

May and co have seriously underestimeated the DUP if they seriously believe they can get the DUP to agree to such a deal... Looks like May and co did a deal with the EU first then phoned the DUP afterwards. LOL

I fully expect a no deal announcement soon.  Zero chance the DUP would back such an arrangement.  And the Torys don't want another general election.

Trouble is that it's pretty clear now that the governments own assessment of Brexit without a deal is that it's an impending economic disaster beginning in the New Year hence the obvious desperation for a deal.

Hearing it was the DUP call that sunk today's chances of a deal - Foster held her press conf, 20 mins later May leaves talks with Juncker to call her, goes back into the room and the deal is off

===================================

How stupid are the Torys, to believe such a deal could ever be done without the DUP's backing?

What an utter mess.

I wonder if the Brexit bunch who categorically and steadfastly stand by their claims that the vote to leave the EU was also a vote to leave the single market and customs union will have anything to say about part of the UK, in NI, effectively remaining in those blocs?

Probably not. It's clear that nobody voted for the piecemeal Brexit that is being negotiated. However, you get the feeling that your typical leave voter is similar to the typical Trump voter and will bury their heads in the sand and stubbornly pretend that everything is going swimmingly even though they likely never voted for this incompetent mess either.

Most of them couldn't give a fuck mate, all you read are the usual 'Fuck the EU. Let's just walk away.' blah blah blah. It doesn't matter what a shambles May, Davis and Co are making of it all, they believe the lies and spin. If this Tory Gov't wanted to go to War next week, even against an allied nation,  some of these cunts would get out their pitchforks and blindly follow.

By the looks of it pretty much everything has been agreed other than the Ireland issue, which the DUP will never back down from..

Only way talks move onto phase 2 is if the Republic of Ireland back down from their demand but with a promise talks will continue on the issue.  Got a feeling they will start to come under pressure from the rest of the EU27 to agree to move onto phase 2 now.  The eu  have a history doing this sort of thing.

Exactly, I just don't see how May can get around this, is a fudge through deliberately ambiguous language really going to wash with the DUP?

They either effectively remain in the customs union or they don't. Anything that differentiates Brexit for NI is surely going to be rejected? Given that her government is dependent upon the DUP and the 30-40 hard core Brexit'eers how can they reach a deal without seriously pissing off one party to the agreement?

Fuck all has been agreed apart from the UK agreeing to pay what it already owes. This does not include any payment for actual market access in the future of course.

They'll be writing an even bigger cheque to bribe the DUP.....

I dont think they will need to, if the DUP dont support the tories theres a chance of a general election and a big chance Corbyn will get in, thats the last thing they want. I reckon they will back down

I think he may be on about the sticking points before moving on to the next phase, but you are right, in the big scheme of things fuck all has been agreed. The UK gov't have just spent an age to backtrack on all their bravado and arrogance to bend over for the EU. They are going to come away with some shit deals for the people of the UK once talk to trade and stuff is on the table.

Makes sense however if the DUP genuinely believe that the government is about to sell them down the river then even the alternative of a pro-Republican Corbyn might be  the better option. Why? Because the most likely outcome with a Labour government is that the whole of the UK leaves the EU but remains in the customs union which would be more palatable to the DUP than effectively aligning NI with the Republic. They view this as the first step towards reunification.

They can face the DUP down if it comes to the crunch and dare them to bring down the government, What are they going to do ?

They would be out with the fucking washing if Labour get in. All more posturing from the headbanging lunatics that are overplaying their hand.
