Yes he is odds on , but Harman might split the Labour mp votes. The other deputy who is a Tory might be a smart bet at quite decent odds , Eleanor Lang. Noticed she has been having a go at Bercow today currying favour with the Tories.

Hoyle said he would carry on Bercows work as far as LGBT and BAME rights go, that'll be a huge vote winner. Plus as deputy speaker he has kind of proven he is independent and fair. Not sure if his words will ring true if given the position like, but that could be said about all of them. Bercow will be hard to follow.

You have to laugh at leave voters. They kept banging on about leaving without a deal and knowing what they voted for from the onset, now they are whining about Bercow and the opposition trying to block the latest deal until it has been scrutinised and digested. The truth is, they haven't got a clue, the thick fucking bastards.

"The fucking bastards" as you put it pistup are the electorate you did not vote in this labour government in waiting in 1983.

They voted instead to elect a pro European cunt called Margret Thatcher.

Greece is apparently the oldest democracy known to man. See what they think of your view of democracy over there?

At least some of them think "please stop using Greece as a justification for your ill-conceived arguments."

There is nothing "ill concieved" about the IMF and the EU enforcing mass austerity on a democratically elected govt angry. You keep swallowing the neo con shilling I'll abstain.

And your point is? Feel free to discuss.

Plus the poll at the top of the page, which includes percentages, suggests otherwise.

Gnasher, you bring up the Greeks with their youth unemployment and other issues to the table so often, and paint the EU as the big bad in all of that. You regularly talk about similar issues affecting some other European countries while the EU and the West continue to wield their economic and political might. We know you are vehemently in the Leave camp. If/when Brexit goes ahead, can we expect you to continue championing the Greek cause while our own country becomes much more insular and xenophobic? After all, the Greek story is clearly a huge deal for you. Or will none of that matter once we've staggered like a drunk out of the EU? If/when our new economic and political policies start to put you at a disadvantage, will you rail against the problems at your door while maintaining solidarity with the likes of Greece?

I know it's got the date on it. What's your point?

You can feel free to discuss the content if you wish. Debate on here is very stifled though,  as your post proves.

There's no point apart from pointing out that your point is pointless.

It's from 44 years ago. It's irrelevant to the situation.

Why wouldn’t he? It’s a disgrace what’s happened in Greece

For what it's worth, Greece has finally shown improvements and signs of recovery. The austerity as awful as it was has helped to reduce levels of corruption.  They have an aging population stuck in their ways and it needed to be tackled. Government needed to be modernised.

I don't agree with how they were treated by the EU but perhaps there are some positives to take from the austerity. The EU will certainly see it that way.

Seeing as the next election is going to be fought over who is going to borrow the most between the 2 main parties, like they did in Greece, Gnasher might end up living the Greek dream. He's just preparing himself for the same experience here by reading and posting all these articles.

Its not irrelevant,  the arguements are pretty much the same it's only we as a country moving so far to the right that's made the aguement against mass bank lead bureaucracy in your view out dated. The principles are the same and the arguements against are still.worth airing.

I will always be behind any govt that promotes less inequality less unemployment, less privatisation and more state assets to be returned to the people who work for and own them. I was/am and will whatever the Brexit outcome be with the socialist former government of Greece.
