Well schedule a snap election before parliament closes.

Which part of "is allowed to unilaterally change the date of the election after Parliament closes" did you not understand?

An early election puts Boris back in control.

I could just imagine Boris saying that it will be on the 15th of October, then changing the date to the 1st of November, crashing out without a deal and becoming some sort of Right wing hero.

The public will be giving Boris a mandate for no deal if he wins a majority in the next GE. If Corbyn wins a majority the public would be giving him a mandate to reverse Brexit.

Rubbish.  There will be Tory voters who don't want a No Deal who wouldn't dream of voting for Corbyn and hate the idea more than they hate a No Deal.  Lesser of the two evils is not a mandate.

Even if the legislation passes (and passes before the 31st of October) any election should be held off until at least the 1st of November.

It creates an attack line and talking point which would go to the very heart of Johnson's credibility and reliability.

He promised to get the UK out of the EU by the 31st of October. He tried to make out that he could do things that other's in his position had previously failed to do.

His word can't be trusted. And that should be hammered home in any election campaign.

Who'd a thunk it? FT running pieces like this

They tried to run a "Corbyn is scary" headline the other day, saying that under a Corbyn Government  £300 bn in shares would be transferred to the workers who actually create the fucking wealth. It didn't work.  Somehow, the prospect of economic democracy isn't universally regarded as terrifying.

Can you explain why a GE cannot be called before parliament closes please?

It can but under the fixed term parliament act it is solely down to the PM to set the date.

The issue is trust, if Labour vote for a GE before the bill to ask for an extension to leaving becomes law, they do not believe the PM would set the election date until after 01st November, thus we leave on No deal and there is nothing parliament can do as the PM sets the date.
