I agree inasmuch as I don't think there will be much if any rapprochement between remainers and brexiteers whatever transpires , but one of the reasons for this divide is that we have had 3 years of both sides calling each other mental for saying things they disagree with.

Guest Pistonbroke

Operation 'Lay the blame elsewhere' has commenced in earnest by that fucking buffoon, Johnson.

Saying that MP's who are trying to block Brexit are collaborating with the EU, who in turn will be less willing to compromise forcing a No Deal. He must be a right simpleton if he thinks people of any intelligence will believe that shite.  The EU has said all along that they have compromised enough and will not renegotiate. Brexiteers just can't understand that they voted to leave an organisation, so therefore can't expect to hold on to the nice bits they want.

There’s not one credible report saying it won’t be a fucking disaster.  We are told that positivity will get us through.

I see the Americans are threatening no trade deal if Brexit impacts on Ireland......Special relationship though. Seriously what is it with these gobshites? Whenever they’re delivering freedom to whatever poor saps they want their great friend and ally to to stand shoulder to shoulder, soon as it’s over it’s utter contempt. We seriously need to fuck these off and tell them to stick their “ special relationship “ up their star spangled banner hoop.

If we miss out on the kind of trade deal that the current US and UK Governments have in mind, we can consider it a bullet dodged.

The Mrs had to go to get an MRI the other week so I was stuck for nearly an hour in the waiting room & picked up the nearest magazine which I assumed was a spoof at first. It was called ' The Oldie ' and every page would have given a brexiteer a lazy lob-on. It was all about Blue Peter, peoples first British car , old soldiers trying to find mates they hadn't spoken to since the Boer War, pin-ups of Vera Lynn and the sale of teapots with Lady Di's head as the lid.

edit; I think I may be getting mixed up on the title , don't think it was called the Oldie.

Taking a step back , I would want cast-iron guarantees that these potential Tory rebels will actually go through with their promises even if Father Christmas is slated to be interim PM thereafter , as they have a long-standing tendency to wilt.

I don't see the downside of Clarke to be honest. The aim here surely is to force a GE? If he doesn't follow through, the unity government will collapse. We know he's a massive europhile, so I've no doubt he will act in a way that increases the chances that we will remain. So get him in, split the Tories to their core, extend article 50 for 12 months, go for a GE. What would Clarke do that doesn't follow that path?

Agree, it also means it won't be a Labour figure going over Corbyn's head and how that would "look" for his authority. Everything, especially politics, is so superficial these days that image really matters irrespective of this extraordinary Brexit problem needing an extraordinary solution.
