They did shit all over Greece with giving them all that money from stabilization funds for years which they wasted and then allowing them to join the euro even though they didn't qualify and then enjoy years of cheap borrowing which they wasted and then hitting them with debt haircuts and bailouts. Fucking EU.

This is an interesting version of events.

Gnasher is wrong a lot about the EU, but he's largely spot on regarding Greece. They were absolutely fucked by the EU. They were made an example of.

But thats not what he's talking about here. He is claiming they fucked Greece because the main party in power were lefties. They were fucking Greece well before they came along so his argument doesn't stack up.

Well, it's partly true and partly not.

They were fucking Greece anyway, that is obviously true. But the EU absolutely were not going to allow a left wing party prevent them from continuing to fuck Greece.

As the crisis worsened, in no small part down the crisis being worse than the cooked books suggested (Goldman Sachs' doing), Greece could be carved up and privatised whilst at the same time selling the story that "SEE LEFTIE GOVERNMENT IS BAD". Despite the fact that the Greek Government for the last few years has had all the power of an Aspas corner. They're essentially a colony of the EU.

It's baffling because whilst I can understand the EU, and various rich cunts around the world, have no intention of allowing a left wing government to go against the consensus economics, it has led to lots of people on the left despising the EU.

I voted remain, and believe being in the EU is considerably better than being out of it. But what the EU did, and is still doing to Greece (debts paid off by 2070 apparently), is fucking disgraceful.

I think the point would be that the EU deliberately treated Greece harshly because it had a radical left government and imposed measures that prevented Syriza from creating a society they would have liked to create, forcing them to toe the "neoliberal" line and thus alienate a lot of their even more radical left support. That if the centre-right government was in place, as it will be now, they wouldn't be so strict. Which remains to be seen.

They are not a colony, they are (mostly) in administration because they were bankrupt and wanted to stay in the euro. I agree that the council of European centre right, left, and centrist finance ministers probably hated the sight of Syriza, but their main concern was (financial) containment and teaching political lessons was further down the list.

I beg to differ, but I'm not doing this again. It was boring enough first time.

We will have to disagree on this, Greece was going to tow the line regardless of whether Syriza, Ronald McDonald or Mickey Mouse were in charge.

At the time I was of the opinion that the EU's involvement in Ireland and Greece was a disgrace, however I actually think history will look more favourably on the EU with the passing of time. Greece is heading in the right direction now and Ireland is in a much better place.

Whether he's right or wrong, his default position of blaming everything on the EU is fucking lame.

Thats it. The luvvie jibe which seemed to upset a few flowers on here so much is back.

I see not one post of remorse or sympathy for the youth of Greece who's dreams have been stamped into the dirt by big banks and the european jackboot.

The eu luvvies and the people who support and prop up this organisation should be a little less bolshy and a little more circumsect in my humble opinion.

Fucking luvvies.

I dislike the EU but they were right to do what they did to Greece. The cheeky bastards wanted to rack up billions in debt and then just get the EU to wipe it off. That's not how things work.

Sorry you are wrong. The old corrupt system racked up debts. The young kids did not commit the crimes they are now playing for.

Anyway we would have all been better off if the eu wiped the debts and started fresh.

Didnt the we do that with the same type of banks that are now hurting Greece?  We bailed the banks out but not a democratic left wing elected government?

Hmm?

I doesn't matter whether the kids racked up the debts or not. The debts were racked up by a shambolic succession of governments. The government were using their nationalised industries to hide debt, and while they were doing it the regulators were asleep at the wheel. When the crash happened it brought all their unscrupulous tactics to light and the whole house of cards collapsed.

You can't write off hundreds of billions of debt. You've got to pay the piper. Greece has been bankrupt several times in the last 200 years. They should never have been accepted into the club in the first place.

Your first sentence is fucking bollocks. Of course it matters who racked up.the debts.

The youth of Greece did give Junaker a very warm welcome  the last time he went there (  if you believe angry's type of assesment )  by pelting the cunt with petrol bombs.

I

Has anyone got a clue what this is referring to?  I know I don't and I suspect Gnash doesn't either, the big mad weirdo.
