If you had a choice of staying in the EU, but with Conservatives in power, or leaving (May's deal or worse), but getting the Labour government, what would you choose?

Stay in the EU with the Tories until the next GE and hope that the Leave side of the electorate punishes them for being saboteur enemies of the Great British empire.

I'd only consider leaving if it was with a Labour Government and on Labour’s terms  (i.e. keeping many of the benefits of remaining). I couldn't support a Labour Party that would agree to May's terms or worse.

I'm aware I now sound like Gnasher, but wouldn't that mean, for you it's status quo and stability within the EU first, democratic socialism second?

Why is it a binary choice ?

Because it's a hypothetical scenario which can reveal what someone thinks is a lesser of the two evils, otherwise it makes no sense.  Along the lines of shat upon once or pissed upon every day for a week. So it's stay in the EU, but Tories win at least one more election, so until lets say 2026, or May's or no deal Brexit but Labour immediately wins and wins at least one more, so same year give or take.

It's not a straight choice; EU membership and democratic Socialism are not mutually exclusive.

I don't want the status quo of a neoliberal EU: I want to remain in the EU  (with all the rights and peace-sustaining stability that brings) while working towards greater democratic Socialism.

That's a proper politician's answer.

In that scenario it would be better to leave

It's an honest answer.

My missus is always trying to get me with hypotheticals (would you rather be bummed by a dog or bum a donkey? - That sort of thing) and I routinely swerve that game.

I think I got my answer and so did the poor donkey.

I suppose if faced with the hypothetical scenario of Tories in for another term and Remain then I would agree. It's more likely to see the Tories turfed out if we Remain as they will haemorrhage votes to Farage and the other loons in UKIP. Labour needs to suck in the Remain voters and a second referendum seems the most obvious way forward for them. The way to defeat the Tories is ensure they don't deliver Brexit. They would explode.

This

The most important thing is that the Good Friday Agreement would remain intact whereas if we left it'd be fucked as would peace in NornIreland as would the whole not having IRA bombs in our cities thing

There's no hypothetical scenario in which leaving the EU is the best option. Happy to help.

I long for them beautifull far away times when Nick Clegg and David Cameron made a press conference in the rose garden of number 10 and Clegg quiped that him and dave are finding it hard to disagree on anything. They then plunged us into a decade of austerity which chocked the life out of our public services.  We now see a nation of destitution, homelessness, food banks and all out fucking misery.

Cameron and Clegg y did untold damage to this country. Its the reason the lib lies were wiped out at the last election.
