You're right though, timing is everything. I don't think some remainers get it, the success of a second referendum depends on the perception of its legitimacy. The polls are showing something like 54-46 in remains favour but Leave hasn't been on a campaign footing for a long time - that will change and it will focus on democracy. The polling in favour of the 2nd referendum is showing 59-41 once the "don't knows" are taken into account. The problem is, for remain to win, the intersection of remainers and those opposed to a second referendum needs to be approaching zero - you can't afford any remainers abstaining or voting against on principle - that's why legitimacy is so important. The labour position of letting the negotiations take their course and fail to pass a vote in parliament helps that. "We honoured the referendum, stated our criteria for an outcome we would support, when one wasn't forthcoming we requested a GE so that we could take the negotiations on, but you refused. Taking it to a referendum is the only remaining option." The likes of Blair, Campbell, Umunna and Adonis prematurely campaigning for it is damaging to their supposed cause - which makes me suspect that the focus of the "Peoples Vote" was more about discrediting the party leadership than the future of the country.

I always find it strange, when a public figure gets pummelled from all angles due to doing a shit job, and somehow that elicits a response of sympathy.

We seem to like glorious failures, whose sole redeeming feature is their gluttony for punishment and ability to withstand public humiliation.

If May were a dog she'd have been given the Old Yeller treatment already.

There is a difference between empathy and sympathy.

Dave Davis has been on R4 Today programme giving advice on how to sort out the deal. If only he had been in charge of negotiations we wouldn't have been in this mess...oh hold on.

Did the interviewer snort "fuck off, you brassnecked cunt"?  Or was it John Humphrys?

Nope to both. The brass neck on the fucker thinking he could sort out a free trade agreement in the 3 months that are left. But there are so many leave voters that will believe the schtick. It's unreal what's happening here, unprecedented almost.

They have let her loose on the radio.

The first caller is Michael, a Tory Councillor, who asks Mrs May to stand down as Prime Minister and let a Brexit-supporter take charge. #MayOnLBC

EU saying no more negotiating. Surely time now for Labour to put up or shut up. They'll now have to back May's deal, no deal or no Brexit. Whatever happens at least it won't go on too much longer.

Perfect for Labour now. If the EU have forced their hand they can say that the only option available is the People's Vote.
