Much as it hurts me to disagree with the two brilliant gentlemen above I think their arguments are based around the idea that a 'Socialist' government in this country would provide a decent alternative to the EU.

The reality/risk is that we are left as at present with a right wing crowd who will use our new found freedom to fuck us even more. I do believe in a lot of what they say but don't believe the fourth estate, MI5/6 etc will ever allow a true government of the left to implement it's ideas so the EU is a bit of a safety net for us.

We live in a democracy. It is in our own hands.

This was tweeted/reported earlier:

Honda UK telling MPs it imports 2 million components a day from Europe on 350 trucks and holds 1 hours worth of stock. It would take 18 months to put customs admin in place but every 15 minutes of delay would cost £850,000 a hour. That's not including WTO tariffs of 10% and 4.5%

Now, who can tell me what happens if we leave the single market and customs union? I'll give you a clue, it won't be pretty for the employment in and around Swindon.

Obviously, you then apply this to every manufacturer up and down the country where parts criss-cross Europe and are you guys getting the picture yet?

The Tories will fuck over every single working person just to attract the kind of business man like Dyson who move their shit abroad to exploit a cheap and easily replaceable workforce. Listen to the likes of reece mogg today, a fucking pre first world war caricature who can't wait to put the peasants back in their place.

There's no fucking way one political party should be in control of these negotiations.

I agree we should remain in the customs union and single market.

It's as if all parties (pre Corbyn) have accepted Thatchers trickle down shite and this has led to a situation where for the first time this generation will be poorer than their parents.

They don't give a shite about social mobility but harp on about 'hard working families' most of whom will be on the minimum wage.

A lot of people are under the impression that all people who are anti EU are little Englanders who hate foreigners and love the Queen, gord bless er.

It is not the case.

I simply do not want to live in a European empire. Controlled by unelected bureaucrats whose wishes and ambitions I do not share.

It is the direct and spoken aim of the organisation to produce a European superstate. I want no part in that. My and my families priorities and requirements are in no way compatible with an Greek olive farmer. Whom I wish no ill.

I love Europe its people and places. I have no problem with immigration and free movement is a great thing. Trade is important and hopefully with any common sense we will continue to trade with people we have traded with for centuries.

The EU, has in a lot of ways, ensured peace for over 50 years in one of the most war torn places on the planet for that is should be applauded.

In many ways it is a great thing. Now.

The future could be very different and much as I respect them I do not wish for my democratic rights, as an individual, to be diluted and handed to 27 representatives who i have no say whatsoever in electing.

For those that say we can opt out of this and opt out of that.

Why would you join the bowls club if you were not going to play bowls? Just for the cheap ale maybe.

Yes but the membership fee is 500 quid a year.

When I said I voted Tory because it benefits me and my family I’m sure you were one of those giving me shit.

Don't like Tories though because they seek an advantage at the expense of others.

That's always been my problem with voting Leave, rather than liking the EU the fear is that we're going to get something much, much worse. The Tories are quite openly discussing the society they envisage now, it's one of low taxation, minimal regulation and minimal public spending.

We vote them out then. The opposition need to step up.

Well I’m still in a job and my bonus was ok, so not bad.

And for the record I didn't say I voted leave for my families benefit I said I voted leave because my families values and priorities have little in common with a Greek Olive farmers families priorities ergo you cannot please everyone.

But millions of people are incredibly worse off which leaves you to answer the latter part of the question.

Happy to discuss elsewhere rather than derail this thread, but I’m afraid my family and I come first. I’m not religious but,if,you are asking if that decision keeps me awake at night then the answer is a no. Probably in the same way you not donating all your spare, cash to save the lives of starving Africans doesn’t keep you awake.

Like mine may not have anything in common with a smack head in Scotland?

Do they have more in common with merchant bankers (no cockney rhyming slang intended} or hedge fund managers? What makes you think your values or priorities are different to those of a Greek olive farmer by the way? Surely you would both just want the best for your families and to live in a decent, fair society?

No mate it is a small point but exposes the nonsense that the institution can effectively function for all its members.
