Great drumming performances

Ringo's got loads, he gets a load of stick but he was such a great drummer, Rain is probably my favourite Ringo performance, either that or She said she said.

I kinda went for mental drumming on my list there, if it's more tasteful/restrained stuff you're after then there's plenty of that around too.

Talking of Ringo being tasteful and restrained, I was listening to "In My Life" the other day.  It's perfect.  I can't imagine how you can apply drums to a fragile and aching song like that without ruining it; fortunately, Ringo can.

Still blows my mind, that fact.

Amazing really. They talk of it in a couple of biographies I've read about him.

Finished the performance (think it was on the Frank Sinatra TV show) and straight off to Hospital after leaving the stage.

Guy was still an absolute monster to the very end years later. Without doubt there won't be another player like him ever again.

It was the Concert of the Americas rather than a Sinatra TV Show if my memory serves me correctly.

I was at a Dennis Chambers drum clinic a few years back and even he said Buddy Rich was "from a different planet.", says it all.

The kid in Whiplash is based on him, apparently.

Ah yes, looking it up he shared the stage and performed with Sinatra at that show (along with Santana also on the bill which is quite some departure from the other two)

He's without doubt the best ever and was such an aggressive player. Tony Williams comes near for me, simply for his sheer genius playing and drumming mind but Buddy is king.
