As Nelly said if he was taking him off solely for an applause he would have done it on 90 minutes, the tactical reasoning behind the substitution is clear .

 

Rodgers comments were not the smartest but he always sugercoats his reasons for taking Gerrard off.

 

But to say it was to give him an ovation for his last game at stamford bridge?

 

In what universe does that compute? I wouldn't even expected that from Woy.

Enter into the vortex of the twilight zone as Chelsea fans rationalise the Gerrard clapping off.

 

Thing is, Gerrard reacted because it hurt, and that alone makes the day a success for me. He didn't even manage to complete the game and he was so upset by the abuse that he reacted. What happens when JT gets abuse? He gets stronger. That's the difference between a leader and someone living off the scraps of a decaying history. Perfect. 

 

Brilliant day. We didn't even have to turn up and they still couldn't win a game they had to. Rodgers getting pelters on RAWK because he apparently said he brought Gerrard off as it was his last game at Stamford Bridge. What a ditto g epitaph - applauding the winners onto the pitch followed by sympathetic applause at another failed title bid. He'll be forever known for "this does not slip now".

In so many ways, this was actually the perfect day.

Just wondering what goes on in those plastic shithouses heads...

 

plastic no 1 - we've won the league how shall we celebrate?

 

Plastic no 2 - why don't we print some 'hilarious banter' about Gerrard slipping to gift Man City the league and hold them up?

 

Plastic no 1 - great idea we'll get on TV as well.

It actually saddens me that nobody in the media seems to be saying how off it is to choose to revel in others failure rather than glory in your own success.
