Eccentricities

I'd say some of the eccentricities on this thread are full blown OCD.

When someone plays Purple Rain in a bar me and my mate sing 'Purple Aids'. When they play Living on a Prayer we replace the second line with 'I was saying boo-erns'.

Not even close. I used to think that until I learned how debilitating OCD actually is. It never gets treated as such because it can be easy to laugh at until its understood, dismissing these things as 'quirks' but they're not.

There's different levels of OCD though, I have a family history of it, I had a touch of it as a teenager (constant washing of hands etc, fear of catching illnesses) and my cousin has it, he hasn't left the house for 25 years.

I'm obsessed with keeping all napkins and tissues that I come across, be it in McDonalds, proper restaurants or even the tissue the barber gives you at the end of the haircut.

My coats are full of them. I don't know why I do this other than the 'you never know' possibility of shitting myself in the middle of the woods, or something.

Whenever I arrive at Heathrow, Terminal 3 I come out the doors and point at someone and wave with a big smile.

My daughter begged me not to do it but i have to. Had a few weird looks as I just then carry off to that tunnel to the Tube.

not happy that Air Canada has switched to Terminal 2.

Whenever I go south to a beach holiday the first thing i do is run into the ocean, rip off my swim shorts and wave them above my head.

And it was your ex missus who was the mad fucker!

Hmmmm.

I certainly think the phrase "full-blown" being attached is OCD is too much here. People with genuine OCD do the things they do no-matter what and pretty much think the world will end if they don't. Its second only to schizophrenia in my "thank fuck I don't have this mental illness" list.

No telly? that is eccentric.

My mates missus (28 years old) lives in the 60's. They have a front-room that is basically a 60's room. Old fashioned phone, record player, all the décor and furniture is 60's style. Nothing in the room is modern at all. She thinks it's quirky, I think it's a  waste of a room. He just lets her crack on for an easy life. She even wears flowery red dresses and a rose in her hair in the summer (but old fashioned shit nothing sexy). And she is pale as fuck too. I think he must have found her in a phone box. Honestly. She is out there.

She is to the 60's what Lizzie is to the 70's what with his flares and hair.

So not the hippy type. Just a proper 60's housewife type thing?

Does this apply to all aspects of 60's life in that room? Casual racism, misogyny, affairs with the window cleaner / milkman and regular domestic violence if she steps out of line?

I mean otherwise it's just a half hearted attempt really.

I haven't owned a TV set for 10 years or so.

I also don't drink any kind of cola nor do I wear jeans.

I have a TV but have considered getting rid for the same reasons as you. Almost nothing on that I want to watch, and I'm happy to watch films and sport online, and the latter occasionally at the pub or mate's houses. The odd documentary or alternative news source on Youtube.

I also don't drink cola or wear jeans, that isn't particularly odd though, is it? Anything that can be used to clean toilets with probably shouldn't be consumed. And jeans are fucking uncomfortable.

Cola probably not, no. But in our age group - assuming we are in roughly the same one - never wearing any (blue) jeans is rather rare I think.

I watch very little TV these days.  Nor do I play computer games.  Not out of eccentricity, there's just too many more interesting things to do.

Same. I occasionally get hooked on a series (once a year) and power through it in no time, but after that its the occasional film or documentary I'd download. Don't have time for channel surfing, thankfully.

Also don't own a console, play the very occasional game of Fifa round at a mate's house.

Obviously this doesn't apply to everyone, many of the people on here that seem to watch lots of those American series (Breaking Bad, The Wire, Game of Thrones, etc) also read a lot, but lots of people I know don't really read or have much interest in music, etc. They don't have many interests beyond telly and computer games.
