"It's not something I've totally decided upon yet. I'll sit down with the staff and we'll look at it next week. The key is getting consistency in that area of the field. Your two centre-halves are critical. They are the tactical decision makers in the game. That balance is important for us this season. We had too many defensive changes last year and that's not something that I like. Hopefully this season we'll be more consistent as a back four."

Who's he trying to kid? He wants to prove he has his leader of men and fuck everything else. We had too many changes because you are too thick and biased. Cretin.

The way in which we've approached the CB position is one of the key reasons I'm pessimistic about both the manager and our recruitment strategy.

We've overstocked, buggered about, annoyed our own players and generally done everything to shuffle the deck and overcomplicate things; it was a process that began with the diverting of attention away from the coaching and onto individual errors.

Now we've just got too many CBs, which have come at the expense of ignoring other positions. When you're overstocked and you're struggling to give everyone games in their preferred position, don't be shocked if your best players - rather than newer ones of lesser skill - are the first to head to the exit. We've done it at AM, and we're doing it at CB.

Sakho is absolutely nowhere near shit.

No wonder he's thinking about leaving as well, when a pub team standard player is starting ahead of him. It's farcical.

Hopefully he sits tight for a bit.  We'll have a competent Manager in by December.

Yeah sure, Sakho is SHITE.... It is not Brendan's well-documented incompetence which has ruined a defensive legacy extending back to Houllier, but it is Reina's, Agger's, Sakho;s et al fault....

The reality is that YESman Brendan and his army of jokers have spent more than £100m on Defenders/Goalkeepers and the results are appalling. If Rafa or Dalglish had this kind of return on investment on a specific area, they'd be gone. Yet Brendan somehow deserves more seasons feeding us more bullshit about defensive stability that will fall from the sky.

He's threw a strop before when not In the team. Wouldn't surprise me if Lovren starts the season ahead of him.

You couldn't blame Sakho either. There's zero excuse for that fucking clown even making our bench.

If he could stay fit for more than a couple of games he might be entitled to throw a strop, but you can't build a defence around a lad who can't stay fit. For me he's in the Sturridge category.

While it's clear that Rodgers' coaching set-up has made us defensively suspect, we haven't spent anywhere close to £100m on defenders and goalkeepers. It remains to be seen whether the new coaching set-up will help address that flaw but regardless, defensive solidity relies just as much on a settled unit as it does the quality of players. How many supposedly lesser teams at least look organised defensively? Rodgers alienating players (just rumoured rather than definitive) won't be helpful to the club either.

If Brendan really is considering giving Lovren the nod over Sakho, it'll be the biggest car crash of a career move since David Brent turned his back on Slough to follow his rock star dreams.

No need for the usual watery 'glad to be proven wrong' platitudes from us on this one. We won't be. Absolute insanity.

Whilst not over it £80m is quite close to £100m. A lot closer than the £0 it looks like we've spent by our standard of performances.

So we've paid about 50m on lovren, sakho and mignolet? About 25m on Moreno and clynne and some loans fees at left and right back, so about the 80m you mention. Watching last season you could count Can as a centre back (he looks a better one of them than anything nice seen in midfield) and toure would have had a signing on fee at least, then there Ilori who we haven't even seen. So that's heading to high 90's and we're a shambles! Oh and we can add Gomez to that. 100m. More worrying is in 3 seasons we've brought in 4/5 centrebacks, 4 fullbacks and 2 keepers, so basically 2 replacement defences and we've gone backwards. While all this has happened we've not even sniffed around a midfielder who might think a out chucking in a tackle.

I think most people are reasonably optimistic about the forward part of the team, but realise they're not going to replicate the SAS scoring feats. And for that reason they are looking behind the attacking players and getting nervous.
