Thanks chaps, they're all a tad closer to civilisation than I'd like though. Wanted to get to Wasdale but all 3 or 4 are either full or don't accept dogs.

Many of the above feel like they're in the middle of nowhere, including the Drunken Duck, even though its address is Ambleside. I have to say I am a real convert to the South Lakes peninsula because it is out of the way of the big honeypots

You could try http://www.watermillinn.co.uk/

They're an Ings near Staveley. Micro brewery, accommodation (very popular), good scoff and dogs very welcome.

Of course I do talk some absolute shit though. Dont I?

Indeed you do talk an awful lot of shite. However, given that I'm only going away for one night some of the options on the Western side of the lakes seem a bit of a drive (3 hours). I might just follow this one up. Cheers.

I confess its appearance has always put me off but its hard to argue with those awards given the competition.

I'd be very suprised if it was nearer than most I've mentioned but another South Lakes option would be The Sun Inn at Kirkby Lonsdale.

The best of it is, under another name you said you agreed with a lot of what I said ;)

Hope you enjoy the mill. Its a good gaff.

The Mill called back, they're booked up so we've booked into Meadowcroft instead.

I have no idea what you mean about another name. I've never been mentally deranged enough to have multiple logins on here.

Ah, yeah they do get very busy especially at weekends. Was looking myself the other day and Fri \ Sat appeared to be fully booked into Feb.

Nah, I meant when I posted under another name. Not to worry, all insults are like water off a duck's back to me.

The punch bowl inn Crossthwaite is the one, Fantastic food and great rooms but sadly dogs are only allowed in the bar. The same people have another place called The Plough at Lupton which does allow your canine friend in a couple of the rooms but I havent stayed there yet so no first hand experience.

We stayed at Meadowcroft, just down from the Watermill pub. Went out for a long walk around Rydal Water and chilled in the pub during the evening.Would highly recommend the B&B and some aspects of the pub, though their food was complete muck - greasy, cold and generally shite. Fantastic breakfast in the B&B, the ale in the pub was superb, all brewed on the premises, there were about 15 dogs in the pub when we were there, all well behaved and the atmosphere was ace, relaxing and chilled. Just a shame about the food.
