TEAM NEWS

Liverpool are again without Mario Balotelli because of a hamstring strain, so fellow forward Rickie Lambert will continue to lead the line.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has indicated he will keep faith with out-of-form goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

Stoke's preparations have been hit by a virus at their training ground.

Asmir Begovic, Phil Bardsley and Geoff Cameron were all affected but should be available, while Victor Moses is ruled out with a thigh problem.

Defenders Erik Pieters and Marc Wilson have returned to training and could be involved. They missed the defeat to Burnley with calf and hamstring problems respectively.

MATCH PREVIEW

Many words have been written and spoken in recent days about Liverpool, who finished second in the Premier League last May but have failed to impress this season.

Former Reds goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar this week claimed that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has only three weeks to save his job.

The manager says he takes full responsibility for their indifferent form, which has seen them suffer six league defeats already, equalling their tally for the whole of last season.

Stoke will be determined to put their home defeat to Burnley last weekend firmly behind them, and they do have a better record on their travels this season than at the Britannia, with victories already at Manchester City and Tottenham.

However, history is not on the Potters' side when it comes to matches at Anfield, as can be seen by their lack of goals at the famous stadium over the years - it is 21 years since their last league strike there.

At the other end, Stoke's inability of late to keep a clean sheet is a concern, and Mark Hughes has called on his players to stop committing costly errors, such as those that led to two early goals for Burnley.

Liverpool's midweek draw at Ludogorets in the Champions League means they are in control of their own destiny in that competition, and an exciting Anfield night is in store next month with the winner-takes-all fixture against Basel.

Before that it is Stoke and a trip to Leicester next weekend; two matches which are eminently winnable, but defeat in either will see the debate about Liverpool's season intensify massively.

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

  • Stoke have not won at Anfield since a 4-3 victory in a Division Two match on 20 March 1959. They have never won a top-flight game away to Liverpool.
  • Liverpool have lost one of their last seven league and cup games against Stoke (W4, D2).
  • The Potters have failed to score in their last eight league matches at Anfield.
  • The last time they netted a league goal away to Liverpool was in a 5-1 defeat on 5 March 1983, in Bob Paisley's final season in charge of the Reds.

Liverpool

  • The Reds have suffered three successive league defeats for the first time under Brendan Rodgers.
  • The last time they lost four top-flight games in a row was between November and December 2002.
  • They have registered a total of just eight shots on target in their last three Premier League games.
  • Liverpool have recorded one victory in their last eight league and cup games, and are winless in their last five.
  • They have kept two Premier League clean sheets - the joint lowest figure in the top flight this season.

Stoke City

  • The Potters have claimed eight points away from home - one more than they have managed at the Britannia Stadium.
  • They have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last six Premier League games.
  • Defeat would see Stoke lose back-to-back league matches for the first time since January.
  • Jonathan Walters has scored four goals in his last six league games against Liverpool.
  • Eleven of Stoke's 13 Premier League goals this season have come from open play.

Is there any need for printing this now?

Paco and Gruntfuttock you fucking pair of cunts voting for Johnson. Fucks like you make me sick.

im going with the same team as wednesday.

not sure about moreno to be honest. hes a bit of a ziege. signed as a left back but quickly it became clear he was more worried about getting forward than defending.

rodgers likes johnson in the same way moyes liked hibbert and ferguson liked fletcher.

I'm sure it will be the same team as Weds., Rodgers talked them up too much afterwards to bench anyone. I do hope Lallana gets a start instead of Gerrard, he and Lambert might produce another goal.

we produced 2 with gerrard and lambo the other night
