I went to a College Film Festival last night as my eldest son had a short film he’d made, as part of his course, included. It was nice for the students to have their films shown on a big screen and in front of an audience.

He hated school. We’d moved just before he was due to transfer to ‘big school’ so he didn’t know anyone. It’s a school that gets good academic results but petty discipline, and stuffy uniform, just weren’t for him. He was miserable for most of his time there and his GCSE results didn’t really reflect his ability.

Anyway, College has been fantastic for him. He’s completed a BTEC in Creative Media, he’s loved it and has worked incredibly hard.

There was some real talent on show but my boy won first prize for his film.

I don’t think I’ve ever been prouder, there were tears.

Surely he can churn out weepies when he is older ?

In Bolton to watch my nieces in a school production of Grease. Kenickie is being played by a 16 year old Dave Usher lookalike. He’s got the hair. He’s got the hair band. And the kid’s got moves.

So obviously not the same DNA then…

I have no idea what that is but I'm glad you like it.

One of the great plays of our age, with Mark Rylance giving an insane performance which rightly sees him compared with the true stage greats.

It was a huge success in 2009/2010 and was given five stars across the board, sold out runs etc.

They're doing a brief run now and it's absurdly well acted and staged.

Played in a dads versus their sons  football match yesterday. I was the oldest player by at least 10 years.  Got 2 lucky poachers goals in a hard fought 4.4 draw. Made my weekend.

I was captain of my primary school football team. We had a school team v dads match and as I didn't have a dad I couldn't play. Thanks for bringing it up.

Harsh.

Some of the teachers at the primary school where my Grandkids go don't let the kids make Mothers or Fathers day cards because not all kids have them.

My Mrs works at the same school and at Christmas those same teachers have Christmas trees and decorations in their classrooms yet there are kids there who come from Jehovah's Witness families.

Work that one out.

The youngest was playing the unmentionable on Monday afternoon waiting for his teachers to get their arse in gear and start their non competitive, mixed groups sports day.

He and a mate both fell over going for the ball. Aiden landed on his back and his mate landed on his face elbow first.

It was a complete accident but he bust Aiden’s face and snapped his front tooth.

The poor bastard has been through hell and back this week with multiple dentist visits and each attempt at a temporary solution not even lasting a day.

His Mam is away this weekend but didn’t want him to play in an unmentionable tournament today.

However this morning he was kicking off because he couldn’t play, said his face was better and he’d back at the dentist Tuesday anyway if anything happened.

He’s captain of his U10’s side and they were in a 6 team tournament against the best sides in their league including their biggest rivals.

In the last 4 seasons they’ve finished runners up in the league to this one side and lost the cup final to them 4 times.

Aiden insisted on playing and promised me he’d lie to his Mam if she told either of us off.

They won the tournament, beating their arch nemesis in the final, he finished top goal scorer and was voted player of the tournament by all the coaches of the teams.

I cried like a bitch I was so proud.
