The shitness of modern football

The way players change between clubs. Once upon a time, clubs couldnt talk to another's player without permission. Think back as recent as the supposed van Dijk 'meetings.'

Now, clubs can seemingly talk to and agree the wedge, via an agent, the player will get when they join, without the clubs agreeing a fee. chelsea's ongoing 'talks' with Fofana are a joke with Leicester seemingly forced to hold talks with them.

Then you have players like Aubameyang who, takes himself off to Barcelona to force the transfer through on his terms, not arsenal's and, now the cunt is ready to come back to the PL and join chelsea just 6 months later.

It's a fucking piss take now.

Shitness indeed.

Newcastle United are ready to shatter their transfer record with the £59 million arrival of Sweden international Alexander Isak.

Telegraph Sport revealed in July that Newcastle's hierarchy had unanimously agreed Isak would be an ideal signing to boost their attack at the start of the window, but the deal stalled over the size of the fee and the player’s wage demands.

Real Sociedad originally informed Newcastle that they would have to activate the striker’s release clause of £76m and the north-east club were also perturbed by suggestions the player would ask for more than £200,000-a-week.

Newcastle informed the Spanish club they were willing to offer around £50m for Isak in staggered payments, but that verbal offer was dismissed and talks broke down.

However, it is understood a hamstring injury to No 9 Callum Wilson has focused minds behind the scenes at St James’ Park and talks with Sociedad restarted on Monday.

Wilson’s injury is not a serious one and he will only be out of action for a few weeks, but his fitness record is poor and he has missed several months during each of his previous two seasons on Tyneside.

Director of football Dan Ashworth flew out to Sweden earlier this week to conduct the negotiations in person and it seems a compromise has been reached with Sociedad agreeing a few lower than the 22-year-old's release clause.

Isak has also indicated he would like the move and appears willing to also accept he will not command wages above  £120,000-a-week on Tyneside if he completes the transfer.

Newcastle have agreed an initial fee of £59m, in staggered payments, although the eventual size of the fee could rise to £63.2m.

That would make Iask the club’s record signing, dwarfing the £40m paid to Hoffenheim for Joelinton back in 2019.

It would also be a remarkable coup for the club given Isak was always their first-choice forward target this summer and they previously felt it was a deal they would not be able to do because of the fee.

But it now seems they have got their man with a senior source telling Telegraph Sport to “expect the unexpected this week” when discussing the club’s stalled bid for Watford forward Joao Pedro.

That now appears to have been in reference for this shock breakthrough in their pursuit of Isak, which will delight manager Eddie Howe who has pushed hardest for this signing to happen.

Newcastle are still looking to make one more signing this month, with a loan deal the most likely option and are still waiting to learn what Chelsea intend to do with Christian Pulisic and Conor Gallagher.
