Premier League to resume on Boxing Day 2022 after World Cup

The Premier League has agreed to break during next season after the weekend of November 12 to incorporate the Qatar 2022 World Cup, before resuming fixtures on Boxing Day, Sly Sports News understands.

Players will have only a week of preparation with their national teams before heading  out to the tournament in the Middle East, and only eight days to recover for the resumption of the league should they reach the final on December 18th.

Absolute crock of shit.

I was reading a thing about FIFA wanting a world cup every two years and it had this in it:

The last three permanent presidents of CONMEBOL (Nicolas Leoz, Eugenio Figuereido and Juan Angel Napout) were all accused of corruption and banned from the game, the last four presidents of CONCACAF (Jack Warner, Lisle Austin, Alfredo Hawit, Jeffrey Webb) were all either indicted of banned, as were the last two presidents of CAF (Issa Hayatou and Ahmad Ahmad), Oceania (Reynald Temarii, David Chung) and the last presidents of the AFC (Mohamed bin Hammam) and UEFA (Michel Platini).

No wonder the game is in such good shape.

This Qatar World Cup is one of the worst things to happen in football, and that’s a really fucking low bar.

It won't happen. But it would be great if fans all boycotted it entirely.

Like most of things, that's the only way anything will change. However, all that will happen is people bitch and moan, but loads will still turn up or watch it on telly.

With the amount of cash in the game and the amount of attempts at bribery or cash for favours you’d receive, I reckon it’s almost impossible to not have corruption at that level of the game. At the end of the day the people who would want those roles, and the scrutiny that comes with it, are most likely power grabbers and schmoozers anyway, and so makes it all the more inevitable.

I'm sure Gary Neville and the rest of the Sky Sport people who are so keen on keeping the game in the hands of the fans will be on to it shortly and get all of this shit sorted toot suite.

I promised myself years ago I wouldn't watch a single second of it. Football is a moral quagmire and you learn to live with it to a certain extent but watching a tournament where the stadiums have being built by literal slave labour is way too much.

The ultimate shitness of modern football.

Clicking on today's fixtures on the BBC website, are the League Cup games at the top of the page? Nope, it's Women's World Cup qualifying, which are apparently the most important matches happening today. If you want to see the games that more than half a dozen people might be interested in, you need to scroll down past a bunch of glorified park kickabouts.

Regardless of the status of the League Cup these days, on what planet is Azerbaijan Women vs Malta Women a bigger deal than Arsenal vs Leeds United?

Was just thinking exactly the same. They need to shift women's football onto a separate page and stop clogging that one up.

It's never labelled as "Women's etc" on the first page either. It's a sort of tacit admission that without attempting to trick people they wouldn't actually click on the links.
