Hard to come by except for Schott and the sizing is too hard to gauge when you're buying online, Schott do European stuff and it's completely different from the American stuff by all accounts.

I tried a belstaff one on ages ago and it was as nice as you'd imagine but was about 650 quid, can't justify it given that my weight changes so often it'll be in the loft in six weeks.

Try Sterlingwear. It's actually the more authentic military issue these days. I have a really old Schott (like late 50s/60s) that has to be about minus 10 or so to consider wearing, a leather Schott that I love and a Sterlingwear that is far more wearable than all of them.

Smart them just looked, plus their model makes me feel I could pull it off.

Had a petrol blue gabardine trenchcoat / mac in the 80 , similar style to Angry's photo but kept the belt tied in a knot , bought from Harold Ian by the Adelphi. Probably cost me about two weeks wages but was well worth it for the positive comments and wearability.

"Yo, Roger comin'!"

I want to get me a nice long overcoat, it's a bugger to find one that is the right length and doesn't make be look like a box.  Want something like what Eddie Murphy wears in Trading Places:

Picked up something very similar a couple of years back. Vintage Dunn & Co. in wool/cashmere. It's a bugger finding one that fits right, but if you know where to look you can get a lot of coat for not much money. At one point I had a rail of them, Crombies, Hepworths etc. Turned into a bit of an addiction actually.

Ha! one of my favourite threads, threads. Here's a few links to some decent UK-made clobber. Probably mostly outdoors-y but you do need something that can keep the weather out.

I’ve got the Peregrine Bexley in brown. It’s a lovely waxed jacket but pretty thin, I’d describe it as as autumn and spring rather than winter

Anyone got any experience of Carhartt jackets? Started hankering after one, but the vintage prices have shot up. Figured I might end up buying new, but apparently the sizes are all over the shop.

I’ve got plenty of their long sleeve tops, jumpers and had loads of their t shirts over the years.

Hardwearing, usually sized big.

Dunno about their jackets

I’ve got this one in navy. Fits true to size at a medium. Can’t speak for the, ahem, bigger-boned among you. Shame they don’t sell them anymore actually as I’d consider bagging one in this colour too. Nice and warm without being bulky and pretty smart.

Sizing is one of those things which truly boils my piss.

What is a Medium? What is a large?

38" will always be 38" and 48" will always be 48".

Why persist with the former abstract ambiguous bullshit?

I fell out with Ginger Baker's daughter about this shit recently. She started a website to sell Ginger Baker merchandise & I (very politely) said I'd like to buy a t-shirt but would like to see a size guide on the site because everything was small, medium & large. Anyway she was quite rude about it and told me to go and Google a size guide so I told her to get fucked.

In other news, I got this jacket, down from £250 to £75. Hopefully it stays mild for a bit because it's not built for winter.

You should have sent the bitch 6 different size guides with 6 different sizes.

Exactly. I was thinking about buying her book too but she can ram it up her arse, which funnily enough, is exactly what I was going to do with it.

Nice. Is that regular Carhartt, or their Work In Progress brand?

Been looking at the old work wear Detroit jacket. They're supposed to be pretty indestructible and age nicely with scuffs and things.

Want to buy a shirt? Give us your collar size and we'll just guess the rest.

Women's body shapes and sizes obviously have too many variables, so we'll just have a system of even numbers and hope that will be enough.
